Duke actually has two 2021 commitments.
Lauren Walker
--- Walker is a 6-1/6-2 small forward from the Atlanta, Georgia area. Her AAU team is Hoop Dreams Athletics, the same AAU program as Duke freshman Jada Claude.
--- She is a good student and has a reputation for being a good shooter. Out of Marietta High School, Walker earned 2019-20 GHSA Girls Basketball All State Honors (Class AAAAAAA, Second Team) while averaging 14.3 ppg and 11.5 rpg.
Brooklyn Rewers
--- Rewers is a 6-3 post from Lake City, Idaho.
--- She is a low-post player who primarily scores on offensive rebounds/putbacks whose back-to-basket game is still developing. Rewers also has difficulty with bigger post players and will have to work on that at the next level.
Recruiting Rankings: Lauren Walker
--- Blue Star: #163
--- ASGR: Not in the top 75 players ranked
--- Prospects Nation: Not in the top 75 players ranked
--- ESPN: Not in the top 100 players ranked

I'm still hesitating on this. Dawn Staley tweeted out two "birdies" in the nest, meaning she got commitments from 2 prospects. From the sound of the comments, they both are incoming members of the 2021 class, and not transfers from other programs.
Rivers hasn't yet made any official announcement - it was a recruiting site that referenced a source from another program that was heavily recruiting Rivers, and apparently from that source Rivers notified them that she was choosing USC, but that's pretty weak as far as being any kind of official source of info, and if true then I hope whoever that asst. coach was with the other program that chose to leak the info before Rivers had a chance to, gets some kind of repercussions from the act.
But we'll soon see who the two "birdies" are, I'm sure. If Rivers, then that's a great get for the program....

Joanne's recruiting is back to the early days of her mediocrity on this critical aspect of running a major college program. No offense to the incoming players, but these are not elite recruits or even Top 100 recruits.

Word gets around. When a girl is considering Duke, sooner or later someone brings up all the negativity surrounding the program, and at that point, many back away.
It's one thing to market a product; it's another to have a good product.

Right now, Joanne P. McCallie is not doing either well.

You would also think that with the decline of Vanderbilt, there'd be more smarty-pants available for Duke to grab. Who is stealing them? Rice, Northwestern, Notre Dame, and Michigan? I think that would be the interesting analysis to have. How does the decline of a particular team lead to the rise of another etc.

Notre Dame and Stanford are probably grabbing the highest number of kids who would normally go to Duke. Maybe every now and then there is some random school that gets a kid who could be at Duke. Alarie from Princeton for example.

Saniya Rivers to South Carolina |
As I have posted above, this commitment still has not been made official, but Dawn Staley has her tradition of tweeting her "birdies landed in the nest" tweets as her announcement that we should expect a commitment soon.
Since that initial tweet, Staley has tweeted two more times, indicating that she had 3 commits waiting to make their announcements, but who they are, is anybody's guess.
Thursday evening, Staley tweeted again:
So this is a possible 4th commit? Coach Dawn's never tweeted these things twice for the same commit, but who knows? The added thing about "Big Bird" landing implies that this commit is a "Big" - a Post or Forward prospect.
The names being tossed about - Saniya Rivers, Sania Feagin, Raven Johnson, Teonni Key, Aubryanna "Bree" Hall, and Jillian Hollingshead among others. Could this be another huge class in the making, similar to USC's 2019 class?

Pat Summitt built a lot of her early success on poaching players, and it's still a good strategy.

Most of recruiting tends to be regional in the SEC, as in the B1G. Top schools recruit nationally, to be sure, but the bulk of it is regional rather than just in=state.

The first of the mystery commits to South Carolina have made their announcement: Aubryanna "Bree" Hall, a 6-0 G out of Wayne High School in Dayton, OH. Hall is the #10 G per Hoopgurlz and #26 prospect overall.
Hall follows in the footsteps of current G Zia Cooke from the state of Ohio - looks like we're going to have a rivalry with Dayton for a while now....
I also wonder is Hall's announcement will be the break in the levy for the other commits to make theirs? The word was they were holding back on making them public until they did them together.....

Muffet built an excellent program at Notre Dame, whose academics are nothing to sneer at, and Jim Foster had a good program at Vandy before Balcomb got in there.
