Well, if that doesn't convince people, I don't know what it will take! 😓

Trump Screws National Guard (surprise, surprise)
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/5/19/1946139/-Trump-administration-screwing-over-National-Guard-members-with-hard-stop-on-COVID-19-deployments
National Guard members on federal deployment for 90 days get early retirement and education benefits, so this “hard stop” will hit on June 24, 89 days after the first deployments in late March. “It’s a Wednesday. And it also coincides with 89 days of deployment for any soldiers who went on federal status at the beginning,” noted retired Brig. Gen. J. Roy Robinson, president of the National Guard Association. “I was getting all kind of calls about it and I said, ‘It’s probably just a coincidence.’ But in the back of my mind, I know better. They’re screwing the National Guard members out of the status they should have.”

I don't think there's any convincing because he's a reflection of his base. Whatever you see is what they so desire. He's following their lead as much as they are following his.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday called the number of COVID-19 cases in the United States – the highest in the world – a “badge of honor,” arguing the still-increasing number of cases is simply evidence the country is testing more people.
“By the way, you know, when you say that we lead in cases, that’s because we have more testing than anybody else,” the president said at the White House. “When we have a lot of cases, I don’t look at that as a bad thing. I look at that in a certain respect as being a good thing, because it means our testing is much better. So, if we were testing a million people instead of 14 million people, it would have far few cases, right?
“So, I view it as a badge of honor. Really, it’s a badge of honor,” Trump said. |

Yes they would.

Well. Joe's certainly got some fab PR people.
That's pretty damning, and the weirdest part is, Donald HIMSELF could watch it and NOT *get it*, i.e., not recognize the reality that his own words condemn him, on tape, for the entire universe to see/hear. His base certainly can't comprehend this. MAAAYBE? Some swing voters or independents might??
I'd love to see the number of MAGA supporters that lost loved ones--young, old, health-care professionals--and know their current feelings about it all. Any number of MAGA folks must have been hit pretty hard too, no?

The MAGA folks mostly know that Trump downplayed the virus to a ridiculous degree. But
as a counterpoint they are talking about how Pelosi was encouraging people to come down and eat in San Francisco's Chinatown around March 1st and Di Blasio was telling New Yorkers to visit New York businesses to support the local economy about a week later. And Cuomo told Di Blasio he could not have NYC shelter-in-place about a week after that because "they will just go to the suburbs". And Biden criticized stopping flights by non-Americans from China. So Trump missed a coming global pandemic, but the other politicians did as well. And while Trump should get massive crap and the boot for saying things like "you've got 15 people and pretty soon it will be close to zero", The Resistance wasn't talking about that foolishness - back when he said it. Trump's talent stack is exclusively politician skills, but the rest of Congress is very similar, almost all politician and lawyer skills in their talent stack.

More Than 900 Children Have Been Expelled Under a Pandemic Border Policy
the new york times wrote: |
Hundreds of migrant children and teenagers have been swiftly deported by American authorities amid the coronavirus pandemic without the opportunity to speak to a social worker or plea for asylum from the violence in their home countries — a reversal of years of established practice for dealing with young foreigners who arrive in the United States.
The deportations represent an extraordinary shift in policy that has been unfolding in recent weeks on the southwestern border, under which safeguards that have for decades been granted to migrant children by both Democratic and Republican administrations appear to have been abandoned.
Historically, young migrants who showed up at the border without adult guardians were provided with shelter, education, medical care and a lengthy administrative process that allowed them to make a case for staying in the United States. Those who were eventually deported were sent home only after arrangements had been made to assure they had a safe place to return to.
That process appears to have been abruptly thrown out under President Trump’s latest border decrees. Some young migrants have been deported within hours of setting foot on American soil. Others have been rousted from their beds in the middle of the night in U.S. government shelters and put on planes out of the country without any notification to their families. |

....and why SHOULD they? Aren't they supposed to be able to rely completely on the trustworthiness of their "Leader"?
Just cuz some others (erroneously) mirrored his early thinking DOESN'T make them equally culpable.
You're conflating some very different principles here: Yes, many politicians of BOTH stripes were saying encouraging things to prevent panic.
But:
Only ONE of them is POTUS, with all the Cutting Edge Intel at his disposal.
Only ONE of them, as ultimate leader, could have mandated NATIONAL compliance, not just local/regional edicts.
Only ONE of them CONTINUOUSLY lied/colored facts at his Daily Press Briefings/Mini Campaign Rallies.
Only ONE of them continued to say, "It's not MY fault"
Only ONE of them deserves to accept the vast majority of the blame. And, ironically, it's the ONLY ONE who never will.

Of all the horrible things to come out of this pandemic, this is one of the worst. That article went on to say...

The National Guard members will also lose active duty health care when their federal deployments end—and by the way, 1,158 have tested positive for COVID-19. |
I've got a mental image of NG personnel in hazmat suits unloading PPE from private flights after FEMA intercepted the shipments ordered previously by New England states.

This is exactly how I felt when I heard about these flyovers. They have money to waste on jet fuel and what not instead of PPE and testing, and that’s supposed to make frontliners feel better?

Washington has lost ‘hundreds of millions of dollars’ to unemployment fraud scheme amid coronavirus joblessness surge
Quote: |
Suzi LeVine, commissioner of the state Employment Security Department (ESD), disclosed the staggering losses during a news conference Thursday afternoon. LeVine declined to specify how much money was stolen during the scam, which is believed to be orchestrated out of Nigeria. But she conceded that the amount was “orders of magnitude above” the $1.6 million that ESD reported losing to fraudsters in April. |
I had little confidence in the ESD's vetting process before this.

It actually does. Obviously not everyone. But they had them here people were in tears._________________ Every woman who has ever been presented with a career/sex quid pro quo in the entertainment industry should come forward and simply say, “Me, too.” - jammer The New York Times 10/10/17 |

Yeah, things like this help make people feel recognized. Complaing about it reeks of politicizing something that doesn't need to be. If this were Obama's White House ordering the flyovers I imagine there would be a different set of people complaining about the exact same thing...and it would be just as much nonsense.
Yes, the flyovers cost money, but they don't happen in a vacuum. If they weren't doing them for frontline healthcare workers they would be in the air somewhere else because the pilots and the jets need their flight time. We don't have these pilots and jets and have them sit around until they are needed in the next war. And because we're 'Murca we know there'll be a next war...
But really the point is that money is already spent. Might as well use it to honor people deserving of some recognition.
