Spain was hit very hard by the virus. More than 27,000 dead giving it a higher per-capita death rate than the US or Italy. But a recent survey looking at antibodies in residents found that only 5% have been infected, showing how much damage could still take place. The percentage infected was larger in their two largest cities:

Quote:
What they found was that about 10-14 percent of the population in and around Madrid has antibodies, along with about 7 percent of the population of Barcelona and smaller numbers outside of Spain’s two major cities. Across the country, it averages out to roughly 5 percent.

Coronavirus hopes and fears centre on 'immunity'

Quote:

Could exposure to the coronaviruses that cause the common cold help protect against COVID-19? Is herd immunity closer than previously thought?

That seems to ignore the fact that we all get exposed to the common cold on a very frequent basis, and yet we've identified nearly 2M cases of COVID in this country along with an unknown but certainly large number of asymptomatic cases. I think this theory is just more noise.

Is COVID-19 even subject to herd immunity?

Quote:
A new study from China shows that antibodies can disappear in two to three months. The study further found that immunity is shorter for asymptomatic patients than symptomatic ones: The less symptomatic a person is, the weaker the immune response and antibody strength. "Young people who have mild disease or asymptomatic disease, their antibodies may never rise very high," said Sankar Swaminathan, chief of infectious diseases at the University of Utah. "We don't even know if those antibodies are protective."
