Its a nice day out today I will go take a look

maybe it is both

go into a CVS in NY and try and reach over someone to get something and see if you get punched in the face or bitched out

go into the subway and sit next to someone without a mask on and see what the reaction is

go to a park and try and pet someone else's dog I promise you it won't end well

I say they're all *stupid*, but a very special KIND of stupid: arrogant, self-absorbed, short-sighted 'stupid'. Razz The way I see it, 'stupid' isn't just measured by IQ or education, but also by degrees of selfishness and inconsiderate behavior.

That said, I also understand what LEADS to that level of 'stupid': we are no longer a nation of (predominantly) selfless, considerate people. Combine rigorous rule changes with "The Me Generation", and there you have it. Frustration is rampant, and patience and self-sacrifice is in short supply.

I have been to the parks in NY a bunch of times these past six weeks, and even Christopher st piers, yes on nice days they are crowded, but they are not that crowded.

People in NY are on edge. People are social distancing way more than that and they're are simply not enough masks in the picture for me to find it believable.

People in NY are scared. If you are walking down the street alone and there is someone walking the other way they will walk into to traffic to avoid you. Mask wearing is at about 75 to 80 percent and I have heard "wear a mask you asshole" yelled at people walking down the street.

I could see a group of 4 or five friends sitting at the piers but it would be a problem if another group of 4 or five people they didn't know came and sat that close to them.

Welp, there you go.

How smart are those people in the Manhattan pic? On a class level we’re doing unequal enforcement by the online or in print scorning of one class of Americans but not mentioning or scorning the people there in that pic and, they are, and will be, the tip of the iceberg of their type and kind in our major cities.

Why am I not hearing news reports on those people? They’re all around me here in LA so forgive my concern but there it is.

Why are there still PSA type ads on television telling young people they're not at risk of getting this virus? Where are the national news interviews with doctors on the frontlines? Photos of ICU's? You can find the latter on social media but the major news outlets have largely buried anything that doesn't allow them to spout directly at Trump. And no, I'm not a Trump supporter, but everyone involved in this crisis is mostly following their own agendas, whether it's cherry-picking news stories or enjoying themselves in the park or telling everyone he's great.

So yeah those photos are legit my bad

Otoh I was out today rode subway at 530 rush hour there were nine people on my car all social distancing and wearing masks

I went to Brooklyn bridge park with one friend. There were a decent amount of people. No one was in a group of three or more except families with small children. No one were playing big sports. Mostly people jogging walking and biking and sitting in the grass.

.I would say 3 out of 4 people w had face coverings and outside of people who were together everyone was trying their best to social distance. No one was blatantly ignoring the rules

We got a slice of pizza Togo everyone in store customers and workers had mask and after ordering everyone waited outside a a distance until the counter person brought them their ordet.

My experience is that most people from all demographics in NY are trying. That best.

Pa their were cops monitoring the situation but no one required any sort of policing with regard to social distancing that I ibserved

Not many mask wearers around here. I can go to the park and walk the trails and not see anyone with a mask. I put a mask in my pocket in case I do run in to people. When I start my walk, I'm usually the only one out there it seems. Last night I was on my way back to my car when I sat down on a bench to enjoy the sunshine for a while. There must have been 20-30 people (remember, this is Nowhere, Indiana) go by, all without masks. It was really windy and I was sitting up wind from everyone, so I didn't bother with my mask.

Went to the store the other day. Aside from the workers and myself, there were maybe 5-6 people that I came across that had masks on. Maybe 10% of the shoppers were wearing them.

With only a handful of positive cases and "just" a couple of deaths, people here aren't worried about it I guess.

Northern states have them..they're just not the majority.

My favorite are the ones in CT..who do things like protest..many of which where masks that expose their nose..

The governors and the president together don't have full control over whether things "open up", at least with regard to non-work activities. People were staying home even before governors issued "shelter in place" type orders based on cell phone GPS data. And in the 7 states that never issued an order, they show a similar pattern of people staying home.

MTA Considers Subway Reservation System Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Quote:
NEW YORK CITY — New Yorkers may never again elbow their way onto a crowded subway car, forced instead to reserve a spot online, according to Metropolitan Transportation Authority chief Pat Foye.

Quote:
Some midtown stations have already seen new markers to help riders keep a safe social distance, a measure Foye said could be expanded systemwide.

The MTA will also consider amping up its surveillance system to monitor and control crowds in subway cars, stations and buses, Foye said.

While Foye could not confirm specifics, he warned New York City commuters not to expect a return to their normal rush hour journeys any time soon.

"Obviously, social distance, wearing a mask and staying six feet away, is going to be nearly impossible," said Foye.

"We're looking at what every other agency is doing and figuring out how we can adopt that and make it fit New York City."

Virginia is “reopening” today. The federal guideline is that states do that after 14 days of declining cases. Virginia reported their highest daily total of new cases yesterday. If you hit the record while “closed” seems a sure thing they beat that after reopening.

A Gambler's perspective: (a bit long, but spot on!Cool )

Quote:
So, the bleach thing is hilarious and dumb and buffoonish and dangerous, and since "hilariously dumb and buffoonishly dangerous " is Trump's wheelhouse, it is also emblematic of the man himself. But inside the momentary diversion before today's insanity, there are lessons about Donald's entire mindset.

Trump has always been rich. He's been rich from his privileged childhood, to the $400 million swindle he conducted on his old man, to the steaks, to the casinos, to the branding empire, to the television show, to the crazy loans from criminal banks with Russian guarantors. He has never not had the capital reserves to make stupid, high-risk gambles with the security of having more treasure in the pile if he got burned.

I used to play poker with a guy like that. He wasn't rich by Trump standards, but he was by our $25 buy-in, with an unlimited re-buy - which was only occasionally used as we all needed to pay rent. At the table were a bunch of people who liked the game. Some of us had more money than the others, some of us had less, but we liked the hustle and camaraderie of it - so, for a few years, once or twice a week we'd get together to drink, smoke, and redistribute our income to one another, as friends have done for literally thousands of years. Then someone invited the new guy.

We'd been talking about wanting "new blood" at the table, and we boasted about how we'd gut the new kid easily, convinced as we were that our skills had tuned us all up for bigger leagues than we were in. But the kid was rich, amoral, and simply always had the reserves to bet big and knock around the other players like me. He was not a good card player. He was, in fact, a pretty bad card player, skill wise. But over the course of a few months, he sucked pretty much all the money out of us every week - and, importantly - sucked all the joy out of the game as he did. He could always go into his pocket for a another $25, or $50, or $100 - and in a game of chance, that's all you need. You don't have to be good if you have the ability to buy more chances than the other players. You don't even have to be lucky. You can take the stupid bet over and over and over again. You can go All-In on gut-shot straight after gut-shot straight, knowing that you're really not risking anything in the end, because - for you, there never really is an "all-in."

And every week, week-after-week, the rich kid walked away from the table even more convinced of his genius as a player. And he gained more influence with our peers, because we are stupid monkeys in the end who like "a winner" no matter how they win.

That's all Trump is. That's all he's ever been. That's all he'll ever be. He's a rich kid who gets to pretend to be smart and brave and crafty and ingenious and "a disruptor" - and people play along because his wealth itself is a distorting reality. He CAN crush you out of a game on a whim, and then flex his muscles and show off his supposed skill.

Back when we played that game, after a few months of really growing to dislike those nights that once were a blast, we started trying to plot and plan to take the new player down. There were several schemes, where we'd try to cover for the others, provide them with a rebuy at a crucial time when they had the cards but not the money. But in the end, that was only a temporary fix. The new guy still had more. Then we tried to find some "ringer" we could bring in to take the money-guy out, but that just introduced another shark to the table and the whole thing fell apart. A beautiful, naturally functioning market economy of friends, ruined by acquisitive, amoral capital. History of the world around a felt-covered table.

To understand Trump, consider him in that way, both in his rise to power - and now in the time of the virus. All his life, he's bought his way through table after table after table, and through his own bumbling ignorance. Every step of the way, he's never actually had to risk a thing. He's only had to pretend to gamble. There has never been anything but a soft landing for that weak child of privilege, and all the pussy-grabbing bluster is just that: Self-delusion and image-projection.

But now?

Now there's a new shark at the table, and it's only about 200 nanometers wide. It holds all the cards and Trump is finally exposed. So what does he do?

He goes back to the only playbook he has EVER known. He takes the long-shot bet, thinking, "What do ya got to lose?"

- When every other serious player at the table sees this thing is a monster in January and February, Trump goes all-in on "the weather will kill it in April." Pretty soon it will be gone, "like a miracle."

Then the virus takes his stack, and ten-thousand American lives.

- In March, after getting his clock cleaned once, and while New York City is actually digging mass-graves for its sons and daughters, Trump figures he's got it this time: "What do you have to lose? Everybody take Hydroxychloroquine! It's a miracle cure! A Lazarus drug!"

Then the virus takes his stack again, and tens-of-thousands more Americans go into the ground.

- In early April, he thinks that maybe he can just suspend the laws of cause and effect, and starts toying with the notion of "Just opening up the country again! It will be like this never happened! Like a miracle!"

But this time, he was a little gun-shy. Fauci whispered in his ear that if he made that bet, he would be going into political principal if the virus again took the hand. So he folds for the first time in decades. He's scared.

- Then, like an gambling addict who just KNOWS his luck is about to change, he hits it again. He hears that Light and Heat and Disinfectant can kill this virus, so he floats the idea of Irradiating, Cooking, or Poisoning the American people.

“I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute,” Mr Trump said on Thursday. “One minute! And is there a way we can do something by an injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs . . . so it’d be interesting to check that.”

Meanwhile, the virus sits across the table, waiting for this idiot's next play. It doesn't care how deep his pockets are. It doesn't care how many times he wants to lay down a crazy-ass, long-shot bet. It isn't impressed by his delusions, or his past record of skating on any and all responsibility in this life.

The virus knows that it has the nut. It knows this game is a lock. It knows it has aces in the hole. It knows that it has us ALL beat, and that the only sensible play is to accept that and walk away, leaving the bully exposed as a fool, and the table empty for a time.

All the way until November, expect Trump to offer crack-pot gamble after crack-pot gamble. Doing so is literally the only strategy he has ever used. He doesn't know what he is doing. He doesn't know how to play. He doesn't have a serious plan. He doesn't even understand that a plan is needed. He never has. He never will. He's just a dumb, dangerous buffoon with a trust fund. That's all he'll ever be.

If you need me, I'll be home playing solitaire.

(Michael Hussein Tallon)

So I'm just going to report on some things I'm seeing.

One is this verbatim quote from the KTLA Channel 5 News at 10 here in LA. Most venerable local news in town. I can't even validate the premise of this statement let alone the numbers but I found it kind of unbelievable.

FUCK I deleted it.

Said this, since easing lockdown measures three weeks ago deaths in GA have declined 15 percent and in Colorado 25 percent.

First, I thought the lockdown restrictions in these states were eased starting last week. No? It's really been three weeks since all that happened?

Three weeks in from that we should be seeing more deaths not a dramatic decrease. Again. No?

I don't know whether KTLA has either part of that right.

Second.

So here are my thoughts now based on observation and personal experiences and also watching what's happening around the country. Someone in one of those icky states where bars are packed right now said, oh God, I think it was the judge who overturned the lockdown measures, that it was akin to tyranny.

So, hmmm. I guess I never thought I'd actually see this, beyond a riot or a protest that gets out of control, which is usually not something that's happening everywhere and at the same time, but what we have here now people is anarchy. No other word for it. The thing is that the governments anticipated it and are absorbing it and taking it into account when determining where to go from here. Anarchy is driving the process.

And there's something else. The guidelines, whatever they may be, at each stage and in whatever state or locale. That is also being manifested, and will invariably be going forward for as long as humans walk this earth, as pure anarchy. Social distancing guidelines, mask enforcement, food handling procedures, transportation procedures. We can't punch this stuff into the program player profiles like were designing Madden NFL. All of this stuff is just words on laminated charts.

Let's just take California and this completely inadequate leadership we have in the governor and LA mayor. How many restaurants? lol. How many fucking restaurants? How small? How close? How many people? There's got to be 25K restaurants in LA alone. No. Good guess though. Just checked, in 2018 there were 29,560 restaurants in Los Angeles. All those human beings. In all those tight spaces. And there's going to be some kind of adherence to masks and keeping proper distances from one another. And every other kind of establishment that's going to get opened up.

Human beings aren't preprogrammed Playstation computer generated characters who only do what they're programmed to do.

So here's what that looked like last night in the Whole Foods in Beverly Hills.

Letting only so many in at a time? Check. I'm timing my trips up there late so there's no line or anything. At first hardly anyone in there.

Then, as I have a lot of stuff to get, it starts to get a little busier. There is n way that we aren't all penetrating to within two feet of each other. This is a small grocery store. The aisles are kind of lined up with the registers.

I come down the last aisle with my cart and there's one guy in front of me for that register. But I look, the motherfucker has his mask down. So I take my car all the way around to the next aisle.

There, at the register, one of the delivery person's is doing a massive order and there eventually was a problem with a return or wrong item, so I'm stuck in this line/aisle for about 15 minutes while in the next aisle over where I originally was, they're moving steadily.

So what I see during that 15 minutes would have me dreaming of cracking a bottle of vino and climbing right in.

So they had some masks. Cool masks. Black, great designs, each individually wrapped, and at the check out stand, the one that I was no longer in. But there was a woman there. Did not look like a resident of Beverly Hills but maybe a housekeeper. This woman handles barehanded EVERY one of these masks, for at least ten minutes. Often with four or five of them fanned in her fingers. She dropped them on the floor and picked them up. And she's standing right were people have to put their groceries down.

So then a young couple comes in. They're not wearing masks. They have their hoodies wrapped around their faces and are pulling them down to talk to each other. I'm standing right next to the ice cream reach-ins and, of course, that's where they came. So now I've got these motherfuckers within three feet of me. And this situation at the register in my lane is just going on and on.

Finally I get up there, and I'm taking all my shit out of the cart and putting it on the conveyor and I hear the staff telling someone, Sir, you have to maintain social distancing. I'm like, fucking jammer, what'd you do now? But it was some REALLY old guy in a wheelchair on oxygen. And so now he comes to my line and pulls his rig right up to my cart. I ask him to move backwards and the staff is all over it but Jesus.

Whatever can go wrong is going to go wrong so many BILLIONS of times a day in this country. You can punch anything you want into a word processor to print on your guidelines placards. But none of that shit is going to happen as you're calling for it to. Never.

This was a small grocery store in an affluent area that was not busy and doesn't let more than 15 customers in at a time. And it was hair-raising what that experience was like.

Now. This GA/Colorado thing. Someone who has a better grip on the facts please tell me if that information is correct. Because, if it is, then that's something we need to talk about.

What if Trump is right? What if it all just goes away. By itself. Magically disappears.

Until after the election. Which he wins because he was right?

I went to two stores yesterday. One, Menards, requires masks. For everyone!!
No one under 16 is allowed in.

The other, Meijer, anything goes. Staff was wearing masks. And cleaning. I'd guess about 1 in 5 shoppers were wearing masks. A woman goes in ahead of me wearing a mask. She grabs a wipe for her cart and takes off.

I'm wearing a mask. I grab a wipe for my cart. I like the small carts which were on the other side of all of the big carts from the wipes. I start to head over to the small carts. The woman, with the mask on, turns around and heads back towards me! Then she wiggles her way between me and the big carts to throw her wipe away!! I would love to know if she ever figured out why I was giving her a WTF look and shaking my head as I walked away.

I can't tell you how many people I see wearing a mask, but with it pulled down under their nose.

My employer has an everyone must be screened, temp checked and wear a mask policy as soon as they enter the building. Can't tell you how many people will come in without one on (they are repeat visitors - 2-3 times a week most of them). I will ask them if they have a mask. They will say, 'yeah, it's in my pocket' or something similar. I'll say, you need to put it on. They will say, 'I just have a quick question.'

I just want to scream at them to get the fuck outside, put their goddamn mask on and THEN you can come in and ask your question. The majority of these people are older and have several risk factors, mostly related to heart issues/diabetes.

Common sense is so lacking that we'll be lucky if any of us survive this.

I haven’t been to a grocery store since March 10th and I was uneasy going in then. But I would have guessed that people are violating the guidelines just from the fact new cases, while dropping from the peak in April (and they kept going up longer than I would expect), aren’t moving down as fast as you would expect with people “sheltering in place”. Since we aren’t wearing N95 masks, the masks are to protect others from the person wearing it. I think cities should make big penalties for not wearing one and have some extra cops on duty to be ready to go arrest anyone who they hear or see isn’t.

They talk about maintaining six feet of distance and I bet that if we went in factories and warehouses that is the distance they are using (if that). But there is a group of people that don’t appear to think that 6 or even 8 or 10 feet is safe. The entertainment industry. The evening news has enough space for two people 6 or more feet away instead of the 4 they can have. So everyone could be in the studio and take turns sitting at the desk and the anchors could be their together. But they only put one person in the studio and everyone else is at home. Jimmy Fallon and the like could have the guests sit at the end of the couch and the band spread way out. But everyone is at home, including the host.
