Yeah, everyone's at 15 or fewer apart from Atlanta, as long as Geiselsoder doesn't sign and want to play in Dallas (and as long as Fiebich, Martin and McBryde don't all end up under contract and intending to show up in LA).
And while people understandably continue to talk about potential pick-ups, it's pretty noticeable that absolutely nobody has been signed since the draft apart from the 2020 picks themselves (bar McBryde in LA, which still hasn't shown up anywhere official). Not the usual raft of undrafted free agents, not a UFA off the street, not a re-signed vet who passed through waivers. Like the 'getting down to 15' thing, looks an awful lot like a league directive... |

LV definitely has the room to pick up a player or two if they like
or maybe Laimbeer is just happy with what he has
They could just cut Manis and go with these 12
(or if they have to go with 11 cut one of Warley or Park and go with only 4 posts and sometimes McCoughtry or cut Allen)
Plum/Robinson/Allen
McBride/Rodgers
McCoughtry/J. Young
Wilson/Hamby/Park
Cambage/Warley-Talbert

Factoring in Young's prior experience, Vegas is unusually deep at PG - considering the lack of depth nearly everywhere else...
They went with 11 players for most of the season last year iirc, so I don't see why they wouldn't at least start out like that again. Still, there's really only about 8-9 players worth keeping imo, and the other spots can be waiver-wire pickups and/or trading a 2021 2nd- or 3rd-rounder for someone.

They've got plenty of cap space. No real need to go with 11. |

who has the best starting 5
vs best 9 deep rotation
LV
Plum, McBride, McCoughtry, Wilson, Cambage
Robinson, Rodgers, J. Young, Hamby
Wash
Cloud, Atkins, EDD, Charles, Meesseman
Mitchell, Powers, Hawkins, Sanders
LA
Gray, Toliver, TRP, Parker, N. Ogwumike
Williams, Sykes, Vadeeva, C. Ogwumike
(Augustus?)
Sea
Bird, Loyd, Clark, Stewart, Howard
Canada, Whitcomb, Langhorne, Russell
I hope there is a season because these top 4 teams are incredible
I like the Vegas starting 5 the best but
I don't think I have the Washington starters correct, I believe Meesseman will come off the bench and Sanders will start but I wanted to see the most talent on the top line. Washington looks the deepest, but Seattle and LA both have a sickening level of talent as well.
TBH all four of these teams look like contenders
next tier
Chi
Sloot, Quigley, Deshields, Lavender, Dolson
Copper, Williams, Stevens, Ch. Parker
PX
SDS, Hartley, DT, Breland, Griner
SWK, Cuningham, B. Turner, Vaugh
Conn
J. Thomas, January, Bonner, A. Thomas, J. Jones
Heideman, Holmes, Plaisance, B. Jones
Atl
Carter, C. Williams, Hays, GloJo, E. Will
Montgomery, Stricklen, Billings, K. Brown
this tier is harder I think you can argue that Conn's starters are just a hair off the top tier, as is Chicago's depth but Conn's thin bench and Chicago's lack of one post player who can match up to the top tier straight is a hurdle (tbh I think all four top teams have at least two posts who are better than any post on Chicago). PX and Atl have some all star type players but it is hard to figure out who are the 5 starters and who are the top 9 as they are lacking there is just not enough talent to fill out each line clearly and decisively
tier 3
Minn
Brown, S. Johnson, Collier, Dantas, Fowles
Dangerfield, Banham, Zandalisini, Shepard
Indy
Wheeler, K. Mitchell, Vivians, Dupree, McCowan
T. Mitchell, Laney, Cox, Achonwa
If Minn had Sims this season they would probably be a tier higher, they have some nice pieces with Collier, Dantas and Fowles but without Sims figuring out the rest of the starters (specifically th perimeter) and the bench (Specifically the posts) is a challenge. (Adding Sims, a FA and a lottery pick in 2021 and they will probably jump right back to the top).
Indy looks to have a future but probably needs one more year of youth development to go to the next level, with that said if either of these teams have good chemistry one of the teams above could falter with bad chemistry or one or two of their top players missing time due to injury.
Bottom tier
(but probably more exciting than tier 3)
Dallas
Jefferson, Ogunbowale, Sabally, NDour, Harrison
Gray, KLS, Thorton, Alarie
NY
Ionescu, Durr, Nurse, Allen, Zahui B
Clarendon, Johannes, Walker, Willoughby
Lots of exciting young players (Ogunbowale, Sabally, Alarie, KLS, Ndour, Ionescu, Durr, Nurse, Johannes, Walker) the only teams where players 10-12 might get a real chance to prove themselves, Harris and whoever makes it between Anigwe and Gustafson will get some minutes and in NY if Han Xu shows up or they commit to Stokes, Shook, Odom or Jones I am sure they will want to see what they can do. Each of these teams will probably get some unexpected wins, but to even get to the playoffs with the talent and experience that is above them seems like a stretch. A year of growth, another high draft pick, some chemistry and maybe a more experienced free agent with the right mind set will bring these teams to the next level in 21 and/or 22
OK got carried away and off topic
LV has a good team

I find it hard to believe that Laimbeer would be content with Warley-Talbert on his final roster. Considering the talent that's out there, she's just training camp fodder. Feel like bringing in Abi Scheid or Kayla Cooper-Williams would be an upgrade. Aces would also benefit from taking whichever post gets cut there between Coates & Brewer. Emese Hof is also an option or even Cayla George is she wants to come over.

Vegas is probably a good candidate to trade for a palatable PF who is about to get cut in exchange for a 2021 third round draft pick in order to avoid this player going through the waiver process.

I'll also add that Vegas should pick up Mompremier from LA since she has about a 1% to make their roster.

I have Mompremier on my list of possibilities for LV along with Holmes and either Anigwe or Gustafson if either one gets cut I like your addition of the loser of the Coates Brewer battle
However I think Mompremeir has about a 40/60 shot against Gulich in which case Laimbeer might like Gulich
but since the role is 8-10 minutes a night at center behind Cambage and sometimes Wilson when she slides over and Hamby is in I could see Laimbeer being fine with Warley-Talbert in that role. That role doesn't need potential or offense it needs someone who is going to bang, get some boards, get some put backs and fits in nicely with the team. Warley-Talbot is a pro role player and has experience with Laimbeer, is probably a good locker room/practice player and knows how to meet the expectations of the role and stay in her lane, that might be more appealing for a contending team with a lot of offense than someone with more upside but less experience who is probably used to starting and getting a lot of minutes. That is why I think Vegas might be interested in Stokes as well.

Yeah i agree those look like top candidates for a championship. They all have different challenges ahead.
LV: Is Angel 100% healthy? She needs to be mobile to be effective. She doesnt shoot well enough to make up for it. If she is healthy then how are they going to incorporate Angel with their other stars? Getting everyone shots and keep everyone happy will be a challenge.
IMO 1 Season is not long enough for them to win a championship. If they find a way to make it work and they keep this together for a 2nd season then i think they would have a very good chance of winning it.
Wash: similar to las Vegas. How are they going to incorparate Charles? And how will the loss of Toliver effect them? Emma will probably come off the bench so i dont wrry about that. I see them having a bigger chance of winning then Las Vegas.
Sparks: frontrunners IMO. Most players already played together for years. The return of Toliver will be very smooth. Her and Gray are a very good guard combo if she is healthy.
Depends on which Parker comes to play
Storm: it all depends on the health of Bird and Stewie. No changes to that 2018 championship team. With the increased offensive role for Howard it will take a lot of pressure off Stewie. Loyd moves from 2nd scorer to 3rd scorer on this team and less pressure will help her IMO. Same benchplayers but all know how to step it up a notch and have proven that they can be trusted with a lot of minutes.

Ji-Su Park will not play this year and has been placed on the "Non-Active" list. That's a first, curious what the difference is between "Non-Active" & "Suspended"?

Puts the Aces at 12 now.
PG: Plum/Robinson/Allen
SG: McBride/Rodgers
SF: McCoughtry/J. Young/Manis
PF: Wilson/Hamby
C: Cambage/Warley-Talbert

They use the same terminology for Talbot. Most likely it means the same as a full season suspension.

A wise decision by Park - she gets to continue honing her skills while staying home in what appears to be a significantly less risky situation for her health. She might not've made this roster in the end anyway. But it'll be interesting to see if she indeed shows up in 2021, the actual Olympic year. If the 2021 season happens in any sort of normal format, the Olympics presumably still will too.

If Park came back to the WNBA in 2022 she'd still be younger than several of this year's draftees are right now. Just for some perspective on how much of her talent is still potential rather than a finished product. |

Warley-Talbert is a training camp contract. Not much reason to criticize those. They’re not expected to make the final roster, so who cares? But if circumstances happen that they make the final roster by other players not showing up, then some criticism may be warranted. Actually, people should criticize whatever they want. This is an analyst board, not a cheerleading board.
But in this case, Warley-Talbert is somebody Laimbeer is familiar with and knows what he’s getting (unlike Reeve with Alexander). He’s got egos to deal with in his starters, so with a backup player you’re looking for somebody who is content with being a backup. You might not get that with somebody putting up star numbers.
Keep in mind this season might be the Aces best shot at a championship with the uncertainty of keeping certain players in the future. This season, there might be a shorter than usual preseason, so would it be better to have a backup who is familiar with Laimbeer’s unchanging system, or would it be better to have a waiver wire or undrafted rookie as a developmental player? I think Laimbeer is about as fond of developing players as Reeve. That’s why he likes his retread players. But if a seasoned young player like a Coates or Gulich (or Stokes?) became available, that might be an interesting choice for Laimbeer to ponder.

Agree with this. He likes having experienced players on his roster, going back to Detroit. And he likes players with which he is familiar (e.g., Sugar Rodgers) from other coaching stints.

Tanisha Wright has officially been announced as the new assistant coach for the Aces. She joins Vickie Johnson who returns as Laimbeer's other assistant.

Aces sign Plum to contract extension.

Can report that @Kelseyplum10 got a two-year extension from @LVAces at $175,000, then $180,250. Nice bump up in salary for the multi-talented guard. |
