Catch's award was called a Lifetime Achievement Award because that wasn't her best season and she'd had several before where she should have won. She was being compared to Martin Scorsese at the Oscars.

As for leading the league in scoring, Moore did that once. Catchings also did that once (2002) but was denied the award through league incompetence.

Quote:
And when we are talking GOAT, offense weighs much more heavily than defense

Why? Defense is equally important and great defensive players are harder to find.

All the objective measures say Catchings at her best was better than Moore at her best. Those metrics each have flaws, but when they're all telling you the same thing it's time to start listening.

Such a passionate argument. I have the utmost respect for the legacy of both players. I chose Catch because I've never seen her take a night off (not even when playing injured) and she won their head-to-head matchup for the championship when being heavily outweighed against the likes of Moore, Whalen, Augustus, Brunson and Wiggins.

My only issue with Catch is she had too many games in which she shot 2-16 or 3-18. There was six seasons in which she shot under 40% from the field. Moore never shot below 42% in any season even if she had more help throughout her WNBA career.

I'm not going to fault anyone who selects Moore but I choose Catch.

Maya Moore has never played on a team that wasn't loaded. Not in high school, college, or the pros. Even with Taurasi, you can go back to 2004-2006 and be like, "Okay, so that's what it looks like when she's not surrounded by top talent." Maya Moore's never had that, in her career. Makes it hard to get a proper gauge of her greatness, in my opinion.

2010 Olympic Trials: Geno runs 4 scrimmages between the pros and collegiates. Maya plays 2 games with each side and goes 4-0.

I'm sorry, did I say that Maya Moore has never played on a team that had the most talent, or did I simply say that she has never played on a team that was not loaded? Because those two statements don't mean the same thing.

Any team composed of players good enough to get invited to Olympic trials is as close to "loaded" as makes no odds.

Moore will win easily, but I have to imagine a Moore-Catchings match-up would be closer.

This is basically a runner up match. Neither is going to beat Taurasi in a vote.

It's essential over at this point. My final four would have been Taurasi, Jackson, Catchings & Cynthia Cooper.

Hard to argue with that list.

Agreed.Though I could be convinced to replace Jackson and Cooper because of short W careers with players who had longer ones.

Jackson, Leslie, Taurasi, and Fowles were my picks

Jackson played 12 seasons, and even if you take out her last two seasons because of injuries, she still played a decade. That's longer than, say, Maya Moore.

More than a few of those seasons were injury plagued. And yes, which is why I wouldn't have Maya Moore in my final four.

And I'm also not saying that after consideration I wouldn't end up going with Jackson. Just that there are a few players that I would have to think long and hard about to weigh between them and her.

Cooper, I would drop first. Her career was too short, IMO.

I don't know, I just feel incredibly lucky to have been able to watch most of these greats in person, especially the 2 Seattle Storm.

My top 4 for the goat debate would be

Cynthia Cooper- never lost in the finals, 4 championships, was the dynasty with the Comets, clutch ability

Maya Moore- dominated every level of basketball, dominated the 2010s, was the dynasty with the Lynx, clutch ability, 4 championships, first female to sign with team Jordan

Lisa Leslie- one of the most dominate and unstoppable players to ever play in the W, 5 gold medals, the most popular WNBA player on and off the court

Tamika Catchings- top 10 in every category in WNBA history, one of the best defensive players and leaders

I mean, Taurasi should win.

I wonder if they'd do another Bracket Challenge while we wait for the season to start? Best team? Best coach?

Based on the results, I wonder how others would list the players from 1-64.

1. Taurasi
2. Moore
3. Bird or Jackson
4. Jackson or Bird
5. Catchings, Cooper, Swoopes or Leslie
6. Catchings, Cooper, Swoopes or Leslie
7. Catchings, Cooper, Swoopes or Leslie
8. Catchings, Cooper, Swoopes or Leslie

...and on and on till 64.
