It does occur to me that this could be a negotiating ploy - walk away from the table and say there are other options.....

Tennessee or Toronto Dream coming soon ?

That's old, old news. The team did end up moving from Atlanta to College Park Georgia about 10 miles away.

I imagine GA state was interested - was where the dream practiced.

But not a good option for the dream in their current arena.

Might be a different story when the new arena is built.

Deleted my duplicate post Smile

I don't mind signing her to a training camp contract. A few years ago, she gave good hustle during her minutes on the floor and gave the starters a breather without letting the game get out of hand.

Not really excited about this, but she might beat Cazorla out for the last spot on the bench.

You better trade Cazorla for Boyd while you still can. Wink

Yeah, I was surprised the Storm kept her all season. Barely played even with Bird & Canada out certain games. Don't see her making the roster in Atlanta. Cazorla > Dietrick.

Another training camp signee. Anyone see video of Elina Babkina playing in Turkey or for Latvia in the European championships?

https://dream.wnba.com/top-draft-prospects-of-the-2020-wnba-draft/

I'm always intrigued by when coaches talk about draft prospects and the draft in general. Collen mentions most of the usual suspects in the allotted two minutes, including Alarie fwiw. She doesn't outright mention Hebard or Dangerfield (though they're still on the list), and though she mentions Sabally, she isn't even on the list. She acknowledges the draft is deep at PG; and I appreciate her acknowledging Ionescu as the top pick, since some coaches like to pointlessly pseudo-speculate stuff like that (and with the 4th Pick, she wouldn't need to here anyway). While she mentions this draft is ripe for multiple players coming out, she does seem to go out of her way to wonder aloud if Chennedy Carter in particular were to come out early.

Imo it would be good to see no more than one other person early-declaring, such as Carter, so that we don't see such a weakened 2021 Draft. Dream would still get a "rest-of-the-best" player instead of a "best-of-the-rest" one, and maybe next year as well if they still can't make the playoffs this season. Razz

Regarding Babkina, for those familiar with her, is she a true PG or a more of a CG/SG? Going off the press release, I see her PPG and especially her APG on her Turkish team are both pretty high. Also, if she's a "10-year veteran", is she, y'know, "old"? Laughing

She's an actual point guard. I would guess she's scoring so much in Turkey because she's one of the better players on the team so they need her to. She's 30, which is admittedly higher than I expected it to be. She's still 'young' in my head.

This is where we are all fans and coaches and management are in the business of basketball. Blake is not coming to camp to be the goto, but to be a glue-to - in other words, she is a calm, positive locker room player that all the other players like. Keeps things light, fun and positive. That was certainly missing last year. Think of Jessica Moore of the dominant Connecticut Sun teams in the beginning; sometimes you need role players that do not require playing time, but rather, want to be a part of something bigger.

It’s not often we get a mature and insightful response here like this. Obviously if Atlanta wants Dietrick back, she must have fulfilled some kind of important role that was missing and doesn’t require superstar numbers. Not every member of the team can or should be a star player.

agree. we're on the outside and can't tell exactly about all the 'stuff' that can happens in the lockerroom. A player used as a lockerroom presence at least needs to be good enough to not be a total embarrassment in a few minutes on the floor, but other than that, someone cheap who can keep the peace can be a valuable asset.

Loeffler working hard to prove she's an anti-abortion extremist

https://americanindependent.com/kelly-loeffler-anti-abortion-groups-gop-senate-georgia-republicans-2020-election/

Quote:
Loeffler is the co-owner of a WNBA team, and the WNBA has worked with Planned Parenthood in the past. She also sits on the board of Grady Memorial Hospital, which is affiliated with Emory University; Emory trains people to perform abortions.

Anti-abortion groups framed these relatively insubstantial links as "deep ties to the abortion industry" and didn't want to see Loeffler nominated to fill the seat.

Looks like the Dream may not have to worry about a politician owner much longer.

Burr out of NC did similar. Tucker Carlson of all people is already calling for him to resign AND be prosecuted.

Apparently Loeffler's husband is chairman of the New York Stock Exchange. Which makes the whole thing feel like it stinks even more.

I don’t see much difference between

“was told about a coming catastrophe we did little about until it was already well spread and growing fast, and said nothing, even while Trump was minimizing it at every opportunity “

and

“ was told about a coming catastrophe we did little about until it was already well spread and growing fast, and said nothing, even while Trump was minimizing it at every opportunity. And sold stock holdings.”

But we should examine the portfolios of the entire Senate to see if anyone else sold stocks after the briefing if it is an illegal trade.

Kelly Loeffler is bad for the WNBA. The WNBA need to get rid of Kelly Loeffler like the NBA got rid of former LA Clippers Owner Donald Sterling.
