Today it is only palming if you are underneath the ball and use it to gain advantage. |
um.....and?

I am surprised that Stanford has not sped things up on offense orDefense.
Oregon 58-33 with 2:58 to go in the third.
19 for Moore, Ionescu 15, Hebard 14.
17 for Williams

Grats to the Ducks. If Moore can shoot like this and they get Sabally back on track I think they will be very, very, very hard to beat in the NCAAs.

The good thing about this game is that anybody scouting the trees won't really find anything that we do well!

Absolutely agree. The thing is they don't just have their starters, but Chavez , Shelley and even Giomi have given good minutes as well. Boley has to be guarded at all times and that just opens up the court.

The biggest question for the last 5 minutes is whether Ionescu can get 3 more rebounds for a triple double.
Oregon 83-47

I always thought Taurasi set that standard, all those years ago!
Oregon is a thing of beauty. They are PEOPLE of beauty in their milieu. I think Kelly realizes he may never regain this level of magic.
Tara with her 'can't throw a pea in the ocean' was a smidge ugly. (Fortunately Minyon 'pead' on her theory.)
I've noticed a general *theme*--here and with pro analysts--is pointing out who's NOT at peak for Oregon at any given moment. But inevitably, the other 4 on the floor shine brighter at those moments. It's part of the magic for an Oregon Fan: "Who's gonna show up tonight?", knowing at least 3 or MORE can and will.
Tonight, Sabally and Boley combined for 10 pts. But look at random box scores from all season: last time at Maples, that pair combined for 34 pts. OR @ Syracuse? The duo combined for 42 pts. Oh. And then there's Sabrina. And Ruthy. And Pea-shooter Minyon. And Taylor. And Jaz. And....well, you get the idea.
THIS team is one of those uniquely phenomenal collections of talent, experience and joy that creates an awesome magic. They are not invincible, but they're just amazing to watch. Especially the joy part.
Ahh, Stanford. My *old* fave from a decade ago. YOU brought me to the FF in '11. Nneka, Kayla, Chiney, Jeanette, Lindsey....such a rich history of winning. I have every reason to believe Stanford will be back in that very seat again, at the top of the PAC 12 by next year: amazing, talented pieces, just a bit short in the experience/chemistry/joy department today.

I haven't watched Stanford enough to figure out Tara's complex substitution rationales or even what her primary offense is. Does she still play the triangle, or does it just seem like an incoherent strangle because of Oregon's remarkably improved defense?

Not really, although one of us jumped aboard the Duck Boat a couple of years ago. (And will likely jump off in a few more).

No more triangle. It's now primarily a Princeton offense when the defense plays man, and something else against zones that disrupt the Princeton.
When Oregon is in man they play Stanford super tight, which the Princeton in theory should work against, but it doesn't. I think that's due to Oregon's length and quickness. They break up the backdoor passes Stanford wants to use and just generally recover very fast after helping.
The unusual 3-2 zone Oregon plays, again with their length and quickness, makes it really tough to get the ball inside *or* kick it out, while still covering perimeter shooters.
