It will be interesting to see the minutes allocated to her this season. She should be a 25-30 minute player off the bench. |
If she’s averaging 30 mpg, it probably won’t be off the bench.

Maybe we see some three guard line-ups this season with Clarendon-Ionescu-Johannes? |
Are you trading Nurse? I think Reeve might be interested. They’d use her as a proper SG. |
Sure. Nurse for Collier.

Just throwing it out there, assuming Tina doesn't come back and we are again predicted to finish in the bottom three or four teams, do you roll the dice and offer next year's number one to Dallas for this year's 5 and 7?? Being that Dallas probably don't want to have to draft 4 number ones this year

Agreed. If Tina doesn't return, I wouldn't trade what potentially could be the #1 pick in the 2021 draft for this year's #5 and #7.

The 2021 draft has a lot of talent. The #1 pick could be Onyenwere, Natasha Mack, Dana Evans or Dungee. And then there's the Finish player Awak Kuier that's definitely going to shake up the draft in 2021.

Don’t see much talent outside Mack and Maybe Awak tbh.

1) Charles hasn’t said anything about sitting out the season. It’s not like she just disappears and creates a void. If Tina is not on the Liberty, that means a trade occurred and New York got something in return. While it doesn’t eliminate the possibility of a bottom-four finish, those pieces reduce the odds of NY being significantly worse without Tina.
2) Even if New York ends up in the lottery, there’s no guarantee they get the #1 pick. It could just as easily be #4. I don’t see Dallas taking the risk of trading sure #5 and #7 picks for one uncertain selection in the future. And as others have noted, 2021 doesn’t look like a particularly strong draft, assuming Carter comes out this year.
3) If NY gets multiple players/picks back in a trade for Charles, then I don’t see them wanting to add two more picks this year. They’ll be creating the same kind of crowding problem for themselves that Dallas is trying to escape.

The fact that Charles "hasn't said anything" about sitting out the season doesn't mean that she won't. Sure, she could sign with the Liberty tomorrow and say she's excited about playing in Brooklyn. Or we could learn tomorrow that she's been traded for some package of players and/or draft picks.
But until it becomes clear that Charles is playing in 2020 for the Liberty or for some other WNBA team, the possibility remains that she could sit out. At this very moment she may be unsure of her plans. We don't know.

Great answers 👍 guys not sure what I would do until Tina's situation is cleared up, just wanted to see what you guys think! With March madness coming up will be easier to focus in on a target for the 13th pick

In just about any situation, you can always say anything is possible. After all, Joe Biden just executed a miracle comeback compared to where he was a week ago. What we do on this board is speculate and read tea leaves. It’s just a question of whether our assumptions are reasonable. For instance, based on Hopkins' comments about wanting to improve Charles’ shooting efficiency, you’ve speculated that there is some kind of rift between Tina and management. You don’t know this is true either. It’s your supposition.
So here’s the basis of my analysis. In Charles’ last interviews, around the time of the UConn-USA game, Tina was talking about providing leadership to her young teammates. While staying on the team is now in question, the fact that she was talking about being on the court suggests she wants to play. Also, Tina’s seeming openness to a trade suggests she wants to play. Finally, the fact that the Chinese League postponed the remainder of their season means that Tina will have four months off. That removes the incentive and need for sitting out to rest her body. Furthermore, if Charles isn’t getting paid for the balance of her Chinese contract (we don’t know either way), then Tina may actually need that WNBA salary she usually gives away.

If you want to call it "probable" that Charles will play in the WNBA this season, I won't argue that. But it remains possible that she won't. And, if it seems relevant, I'll keep saying that until it's clear that we'll see her on the court.

If Charles opts to sit out, can the Liberty still core her next season?

Yes. You only add on to the player's total of cored years if they actually play under the core designation. |

The core limit doesn't drop to 2 years until 2022. |

Wow this free agency has been exciting.
You think maybe Tina goes to Indy for the #3 plus something?
Or a more complicated 3 way involving Dallas?

Outside of a few names left(Cambage, Carson, Zellous), free agency is essentially done for 2020. I definitely feel a couple of trades fell through to send Tina somewhere(Phoenix? Atlanta?). At this point I just don't see any teams in need of her with the exception to Las Vegas. Would Tina agree to go to Vegas and back-up Cambage at center? What does Vegas have to offer in a trade? Hamby & a 2021 first-rounder? If Tina does sit out, this it what we're looking at for 2020:
PG: Ionescu/Clarendon/Boyd?
SG: Durr/Johannes
SF: Nurse/Allen
PF: Zahui B/Gray/#13 pick
C: Stokes/Xu

Yes. But, IMO, she's a lock as a lottery pick in 2021. Not so much in 2020.

Congratulations to Miss Nurse on her game winning shot, think it's going to be a carry over season for her as they open up the offense giving her a bigger role, think she is good for 17 points per this year

What a steal at draft position 10, wasn't it?

Remember how everybody thought for sure that Miller would draft her? Did Miller screw up again? Of course, he still has Hiedeman to show for that draft.
