The same article that says that Taurasi is dreaming of Charles also says Taurasi might extend her playing career to age 40. All these dreams don’t add up together financially.

Maybe Taurasi should just take over as GM. It kinda sounds like she’s in charge anyway.

The re-signing of Yvonne Turner is in question. Mercury never officially announced it and Turner just injured herself overseas.

I doubt Turner was going to sign for the minimum, so this attempted signing was yet another sign that PHX had moved on from the notion of trading for Charles (if overpaying for Hartley wasn’t hint enough).

Not sure that is correct conclusion. If poor Yvonne has a WNBA season ending injury, Phx can sign her, thus retaining her rights. If she does not play, she can be placed on suspended list (like Stew last season), and not count vs cap.

If she has a season ending injury, the chances of someone else signing her are remote

YTurner is a reserved player, not an UFA. I believe she’ll remain a reserved player for PHX as long as they give her a “qualifying offer” for the next preseason.

It was news, Luuc. The Mercury signed her and she got hurt. If she can't play, I am sure she will be suspended. Jeff's full article explains this option. I don't know if you met Jeff in any of your visits but he is a good guy. He has represented the Mercury well.

Just his phrasing - "could impact Yvonne Turner re-signing" - was odd to me, that's all. Like an implication that a done deal could somehow change as a result of the injury.

Anyone heard an update on her?

Turner did, in fact, tear her ACL. She will not be playing this season in the WNBA. So with Turner under contract, Phoenix may be forced to have a 10-player roster this season.

PG: Diggins-Smith/???
SG: Taurasi/Cunningham
SF: Coffey/draft pick
PF: Breland/ASMith
C: Griner/BTurner
IR: YTurner

As people have already pointed out, that's not how it'll work, even if she's already signed. People who get hurt overseas get suspended these days, and the money comes off the cap (and also don't take up a roster spot).

Jeff Metcalfe | The Arizona Republic | azcentral.com |

The new forwards join returning post players Brittney Griner, Brianna Turner and Alanna Smith. On the perimeter, Mercury players under contract are Diana Taurasi, Diggins-Smith, Bria Hartley, Sophie Cunningham and Yvonne Turner.

The 2020 salaries for those 10 players combined are $1,158,000, $142,000 under the $1.3 million league salary cap.

Thought she'd retire instead. Phoenix now has no cap space for Charles. At all.

Haha.....good luck to Kia! I don’t mind her as a 4th or 5th post option. She’s tough.

Does seem like the Mercury will look at a PG with the #10 pick. Unless Xargay is coming over.

PG: Diggins-Smith/#10 pick
SG: Hartley/Cunningham
SF: Taurasi/Coffey
PF: Breland/ASmith
C: Griner/BTurner/Vaughn
Suspended: YTurner

That far down the first round, and with Brondello as the coach, it likely makes no difference because she won't play even if she makes the roster, but a small forward with decent size would make more sense to me. They've already got three ballhandlers, Taurasi isn't a 3, and Coffey is yet to prove anything at WNBA level.

A point guard worth drafting might be easier to find at that point, or course.

I wouldnt be suprised to see Taurasi at the 3 a lot this season and them going with the 'small' guard line-up

Neither would I. I just don't think it's actually a good idea. I'd rather have re-signed Carson, or even signed someone like Zellous, than given the money to Vaughn so that BTurner and ASmith can be glued to the bench again.
