She’s not wrong. There seems like there is going to be some huge discrepancies and as Thibaud said, teams may only carry 11 so we will see if this contract actually hurts the W in the long run. |
I’m surprised more players haven’t grumbled about it. Maybe they’re just less public about it? It’s hardly fair for most of the players not to reap immediate financial benefits of the new CBA. Hopefully some of that windfall sponsorship money comes through for some of these players. |
After seeing the high percentage of approvers I was surprised to see no provision on current contracts.
Makes me wonder if people didn't ask the question - I would have.
I do think it is fair to grumble - creates potential inequity not on talent or need but timing.
That said I'd probably have my agent contact the team to discuss options vs. Putting this on insta (after I asked why he/she didn't advise this was a risk when signing before the cba).
If she is their longer term centerpiece you'd think they would be willing to do something or would if approached correctly...They should have plenty of room.

Jas would be a nice addition to the Dream |
Dream have been there, done that. It would be ironic if they give up a lottery pick to get back a player they traded for a second pick (got cut the first day of camp, I think.) I certainly hope it is Williams and not Thomas......

Probably also says not keeping Bentley id guess?

The tweet mentioned a SG wanting to move, so that's what started the Williams discussion. Williams is much younger than Thomas and JMO - a better player. Dream would still need a PG, but Thomas is not going to make them a winner. Williams would at least make them more fun to watch while they are losing. Now, if they could get Thomas for a second round pick, I'd be all for it.
Really doesn't matter who we want - it's which player want to move. I can see some reason Williams might want to come to Atlanta. Not sure why Thomas would prefer Atlanta over anywhere else. Stormeo's post geographic analysis says DC, which is south of the Sun, but probably not viable.
Anyway, this is probably just an exercise wishful thinking.

In the mix if conferences mattered during playoff time.

Her home base is Miami. If I remember right, she loves Collen. And the final straw is the money. If you’re good with math, you know Miller wanted her to take less money than she’s worth or a max one year deal so he can keep his options open on the Thomases.

Not sure she does prefer ATL. But would you max her out? You’d need more than a second round pick for her. Minnesota’s second round pick is better than your second round pick.

I feel like the Atlanta Dream finally getting a legitimate shooting threat to complement the superstar they no longer have, after failing to get her a shooter for a smooth decade, would be the most Atlanta Dream thing ever.

So true. Dream seem to have six full guaranteed contract players now. Can't get anyone else unless they get rid of one of them.

They didn't guarantee GJohnson's deal, so still one left (to give to CWilliams, hypothetically). |

Unless they guaranteed Stricklen, I’m only counting 4 guaranteed. It looks like they didn’t guarantee Glory Johnson. That was odd deal she got. One year.

Odd she didn't get one, but good thing they didn't. Guess not everybody gets the Hartley treatment.

I'm more convinced than ever that they're going to try for Tina Charles |
If they are....I want to say Hayes is one of/used to be Tina’s best friends.
Is it possible to get C Williams without trading Hayes?
New York gets: E Williams, #4, Cazorla, Plaisance
gives up: Charles, Stokes, Boyd
Atlanta gets: Charles, Boyd, C Williams
gives up: E Williams, #4, Montgomery, Breland, Cazorla
Connecticut gets: Montgomery, Breland, Stokes
gives up: C Williams, Plaisance
Sun
Thomas/Montgomery
Holmes/Hiedeman
Bonner/Laska(23)
Thomas/Breland
Jones/Stokes/Jones
Why: rumors someone wants out, possibly Williams. Improves their bench and depth. They got a player 6 inches taller (also older) who has a similar skill set (slasher, mid range jumper, can hit deeper 3s) so Montgomery replacing Clarendon, adding Breland and Stokes to their bench maybe offsets the loss.
Instead of 3 first rounders, they get 3 vets to add to a championship push.
Would have to run with 11 player roster.
Dream
Hayes/Boyd/Moore(27)
Williams/Prince(vet min)
Stricklen/Gorecki(25)
Johnson/Billings
Charles/Brown/Alexander(vet min)
Why: goes for the re-tooling instead of re-building. With Hayes and Williams they can push the pace. Charles is on the decline, but IMO not as bad as some think (and I would be happy to see her stay in NY).
Can Hayes/Williams function as a backcourt? Charles has to go back to center unless Johnson comes off the bench.
Liberty
Ionescu(1)/Clarendon/Cazorla
Durr/Johannes...Landrum(13)
Nurse/Allen
Zahui B/Plaisance/Gray
Williams/Hebard(4)
Why: total re-build and youth movement. Gets decent value for Tina (young former all star in EWill, and another first round pick). Space to absorb Plaisance contract.

I'm interested in how this team will look on the floor. Having another 3 point threat is HUGE for Atlanta. Now, Stricklen at the 3 is not nearly as mobile and athletic and Angel, but Glory at the 4 is a more athletic 4 (offensively) than Breland, so, there's that. It sounds like we all believe that Atlanta isn't done "retooling" but I'm not convinced that Tip will be moved. It would be odd for Atlanta to start a completely different 5 on opening day, so who's gonna stay?

Charles has never liked to play the five so if you slot her in there, she won't be happy.

If Atlanta stops now
#4 (Carter)/Montgomery
Hayes/Cazorla
Striklen/Coffey
Johnson/Breland/Billings
K. Brown/E. Will
#4 Carter?
FA TY, Prince, Rodgers, Banham, Carson, Zellous?
I guess that could work I still see them swinging for more C. Williams, Charles, but if they luck out with Carter it could be a combo retool with the vets, rebuild with the youth Carter/Brown and Billings

If Carter and Sabally declared, that could end up a hell of a lot better than what I thought you might have to settle for from Phoenix. It's probably better anyway. |

If there really is a trade for C Williams and/or Charles in the works, it would seem they really need to wait until draft declarations are known.

The worst they could do at #4 would probably be Hebard, who would be a nice fit and very tempting for the Liberty, and she’s about ten years younger than Charles.
Of course, Spooner wants Mompremier instead.
