7 pm ET on ESPN2.

UConn has not lost a home game in Gampel Pavilion since (I think) January 2013. However, Oregon has a powerhouse team and world-renowned pundits have claimed UConn has its weakest team since 2005 or even 1993.

Local sportswriter tweet today:

Quote:
@CarlAdamec
Guard Christyn Williams has been dealing with the flu and only watched the first part of @UConnWBB practice that the media was allowed to attend this morning . #Huskies host Oregon Monday night
.

This doesn't necessarily mean Williams won't be ready to play by Monday night.

UConn has 2 advantages- the Gampel court, and Oregon is playing its 3rd game in 5 days and flew in from Colorado.

However, in their blowout win over the Buffs Sat, no Duck played more than 27 mins. and in their rout of Utah Thurs, only Ionescu cracked the 30-min level, with 31.

Check that- UConn has *one* advantage, which very likely won't be enough.

Is Williams playing? Without her it's gonna be big time problem.
Shots will have to fall anyway and ONO must stay out of foul trouble. Anna and Aubrey need to deliver 10+ each just to open other options than 30 shots by Walker and Dangerfield which rather won't end well.

also depends on if Oregon's outside shots are falling. We saw what happened at Louisville when they weren't. But yeah, if Williams is not in good form it will be a very, very hard task for UConn.

Sabally will be the X-Factor. Does she freeze up in her first matchup against UCONN? Or does she come for blooooood!! I’d pick the latter she’s a problem.

I'm intrigued by the Minyon Moore/Crystal Dangerfield matchup. Both of them will need to make a few baskets in order to keep the defenses honest. Both are pretty pesky defenders. Oregon has the advantage of having a second PG on the floor if Moore gets into trouble.

Just hoping for an entertaining game, with all staying intact and healthy. Cool
With these kinds of matchups, I always feel like the 'winner' is at a disadvantage if/when they meet in the NCAAT. But Oregon handled MS-St twice last year--little surprised by that--but it is what a true champion must do.

Love to see a rare primetime game that features the best the west has to offer taking on an east coast power, at their place no less. Anyone know if this game is just a one-off or did UConn agree to play at Oregon next season or something?

UConn only wins this game if they put on a defensive clinic (and/or if Oregon can't hit shots for whatever reason) and Nelson-Ododa shows up on both ends of the floor. They don't have the offensive cohesion this year to get into even a mini-shootout with Oregon. They might mix it up defending Ionescu but I'm guessing Walker guards her most of the night, especially if Williams is still not 100% due to the flu.

I thiink they play at Oregon in the 2022 season. I wonder if both Geno and Graves want to give their incoming classes a year?

I saw a long shot of the game and thought Katie Lou Samuelson was still playing for UConn.

Lobo has breathless excitement for Ionescu, but it is not at her Taurasi-level.

44-31 at the half. Walker 1-11.

The senior pg is 4-5 for 11 pts while the rest of the team is 8-28 and 20 pts.

Oregon is slicing and dicing the UConn defense.

I thought Oregon looked really uptight in the beginning but I guess it was just being serious.

I really hope Ionescu can get that 24th career triple-double (would be her first against a top-10 team according to the broadcasters) here on this stage, in honor of her hero & friend Kobe Bryant. Crying or Very sad

Only thing that kept UConn from being totally demolished in the first half was good three-point shooting. Their inside games, both post and penetration, are weak and clearly inferior to Oregon's. Oregon's rebounding and defense are also better, and the Duck zone looks quite quite intimidating when Sabally is out front looking down at the diminutive Dangerfield.

ONO still has no power moves and poor touch. Specifically, she can't shoot over her left shoulder with a hook, jump hook, drop step or up-and-under, and she is is weak and lacks confidence in her off-hand.

Not impossible for UConn to come back, but they'd have to play almost perfect ball and Oregon would have to go cold from outside.

I thought UConn would be driving and dishing more than they have. It's kind of the good thing about Makarat. At least she tries to do that. Griffin is Ms. Energy but she has a terrible touch around the basket.

The more I see of Ruthie, the more impressed I am with her touch around the basket. She makes them look easy even when they're not.

2nd half - what will they bring now.

yeah. her numbers actually don't look bad in this game, but she does look pretty awkward in there.

I like it that the refs have not been a deciding factor so far.

THe problem with playing against a player who has the flu is that you get it too. It'll be interesting to see if Oregon can get back home healthy. They need to be healthy for the Arizona schools.

This version of UConn can't play UConn basketball. They don't have the basketball IQ, experience or passing skills to execute sophisticated read and react two- and three-man games. It's mostly just one-on-oneism and outside chucking, which works okay against mediocre competition.

Can't decide between Sabally and Cox for #2. That's if she declares of course.

Williams should be past contagious by now, so I doubt that’s an issue. If someone else on the team is just coming down with it, that could be a problem, but I don’t think Williams is a Typhoid Mary.

This is UConn's worst ever loss at Gampel
