Squads out for the Connecticut/Louisville games, and the Olympic Qualifying Tournament: https://www.usab.com/news-events/news/2020/01/wnt-winter-exhibition-rosters.aspx

It's the core eight, minus the presumably-still-rehabbing EDD, plus a variety of people including Stewart and McCoughtry. Only odd thing is that they've only named 11 players for the OQT. No idea why.

Nice to see that Angel is getting her share of the Team Rehab pie.

The exhibition games are very guard heavy. The Olympic squad could use another wing. Maybe they add McCoughtry or McBride later?

Collegiate exhibitions:

PG: Bird/Diggins-Smith/Clarendon
SG: Gray/Plum
SF: Taurasi/McBride
PF: Stewart/Wilson
C: Fowles/Ogwumike
12th: Charles/McCoughtry

Olympic Qualifiers:
PG: Bird/Diggins-Smith
SG: Gray/Loyd
SF: Taurasi/DeShields
PF: Stewart/Wilson/Ogwumike
C: Fowles/Griner

All around good selections, although Delle Donne didn't play in as many tournaments as the other honorees.

https://www.usab.com/news-events/news/2020/01/wnt-winter-roster-updates.aspx

Katie Lou Samuelson (UConn connection) added to the roster for both remaining exhibition games plus she’ll be included in the Serbia qualifying tournament. Is she not playing overseas?

Taurasi and DeShields won’t be available for the Serbian tournament (and doesn’t say why).

They’ll be replaced by Ariel Atkins and Tiffany Mitchell (South Carolina connection).

She returned home, in November or December. after an injury in a game in France. She is no longer listed on the French teams roster.

There goes any possibility she'd play for Great Britain. Sorry, Richyyy.

You’re thinking of the wrong Samuelson. The British one played for the Wings.

Based on their production so far at the professional level, we may have the better sister already Wink.

Think the AmeriCup appearance closed that door anyway barring FIBA shenanigans.

Samuelson is healthy now. She played in recent USA 3x3 ranking gaming tournaments.

Deshields has not played in a while so I would not be surprised if she is injured and we just haven't heard about it.

The Mitchell news is interesting because Israel is not observing the break so she would likely miss their three final regular season games.

On top of that stuff, the Taurasi situation is odd. She's still in the squad for the two college games, but is no longer in the squad for the OQT in Serbia. Maybe some kind of minor injury, but they're keeping her around for the college games because they think her name will sell tickets?

Or she just doesn't want to travel to Serbia and they aren't making her.

If she felt that strongly about a trip that'll only last about five days, you'd think she might've mentioned it before they announced the squad in the first place.

So with Moore not returning to basketball in 2020 did a spot just open up for McCoughtry to rejoin the team?

Bird/C. Gray
Taurasi/SDS/*
EDD/McCoughtry
Stewart/N. Ogwumike/Wilson
Griner/Fowles

* up for grabs between Plum, Deshields and Ogunbowale?

Looks like you have it nailed down, Spooner, except Team USA has been classifying Stewart as a SF lately. So I think you can take that as a hint.

I saw Plum doing color commentary for college basketball, so I’m not sure she’s been playing overseas. She might get the spot because she seems to want it bad enough.

I’m curious about Augustus though. Pretty sure she wants a spot if she’s not ready for retirement. Her knees are ready for retirement but she isn’t.

I think either Plum or Ionescu will get that 12th spot. And I'd have Charles over McCoughtry.

PG: Bird/Ionescu or Plum
SG: Taurasi /Gray/Diggins
SF: Stewart /Delle Donne
PF: NOgwumike/Charles/Wilson
C: Fowles/Griner

Ionescu hasn’t been in any camps, so it’s not looking good for her. For World Cup they might play it a little more loosey-goosey, but with the Olympics they don’t mess around.

Supposedly Ionescu is locked into 3x3, but plans can change. Regardless, that's a pretty damn good team.

Taurasi is looking to grow and publicize the game in the U.S, not Serbia. The team will be fine. Frankly, she's the mother of a small child and has earned the right to rest her body or skip the travel if she wants to.

If they are going to give her a spot without making her earn it, the least she can do is be bothered to show up and act interested.

Rest? If anything she’s getting too much rest. If she has the right to skip whatever she wants, then USAB shouldn’t pay her for that time either. They get paid now, you know.... supposedly Taurasi and Bird’s idea on the back of a napkin.

I’m assuming you hold the same assurance for Diggins, for who is also the mother of an even younger child?

Why don't they just skip the Olympics too?

Um, why would Diggins have the same assurance? She's never been a long-term or senior National Team member or led the USA to Olympic Gold so...no, I would think she needs to make every effort to show up and impress the committee to cement her place on the roster.

I’d say she’s cemented if she wants it. She’s part of the Designated Eight, just like Taurasi.
