I had to submit my hard rock and heavy metal list to the site I write for already so that list is now up. But I've got a few more albums to listen to and review before the end of the year so this list may change. Until then, here's my Top 8 releases in this genre:
01.) Mike Tramp - Stray From The Flock (Target)
02.) Helix - Old School (Perris)
03.) Tora Tora - Bastards Of Beale (Frontiers)
04.) Queensryche - The Verdict (Century Media)
05.) Helloween - United Alive In Madrid (Nuclear Blast)
06.) Gary Hoey - Neon Highway Blues (Provogue)
07.) L.A. Guns - The Devil You Know (Frontiers)
08.) Hell's Addiction - V1.0 (Independent) |

I'm not much into metal (as my list indicates) but my neighbors are. They've been really into Waste Of Space Orchestra this year.

The Yola album is really good. I am also a big fan of "Father of the Bride" by Vampire Weekend and "Cuz I Love You" by Lizzo.
The Sleater-Kinney and St. Vincent Collaboration is pretty great, as is the cast recording to "Hadestown."

If I could recommend one "pop"/mainstream album from 2019 to people who weren't regular pop-music listeners, it's hands-down Lana Del Rey's Norman F***ing Rockwell!, a finalist for this year's Album of the Year Grammy. And it's much more in the singer-songwriter or even alternative rock genres than pop imo.

I struggle with pop these days and yeah that was my favourite "pop" album of the year as well.
