It's a mess, of course. A reminder that medium matters.
They found the sweet spot where the CGI is distracting without also enhancing the story. It needed either a lot more or a lot less. The problem with less is that it's been done with the 1998 filmed play version. That version isn't perfect, but it's as close to the stage show as we're ever likely to get on film.
As a film, Cats would likely work better animated rather than live action. Since it doesn't really have a plot, the best thing to do would be to abandon the show's set-bound nature. Keep the Jellicle Ball as a framing device and do each song as a set piece, similar to Fantasia. The stage version does something like this with Growltiger's Last Stand and the pirate ship, a film could expand that concept to all the cats.

Yet, another negative review of this movie. Probably, the frontrunner for most Razzie nominations.

It's amazing how bad this was. It should have been an animated movie. The CGI was terrible. I had figured with the names they had it would have been decent at least. Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, J-Hud, James Cordan, etc. What a bomb.

Awww... I wanted to see this. The reviews are worse spoilers than the actual spoilers._________________ If you cannot inspire yourself to read a book about women's basketball, or any book about women's sports, you cannot inspire any young girl or boy to write a book about them. http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/Richardstrek |

Hey, I like it! But -- I'm a fan of the music, love that all by itself. See the movie, decide for yourself, I say.

Ahhh, yes. When Grizabella sings her finale, it's all that's needed.
