This thread is specifically for the players who were born outside of the United States as the fanfare and recognition is usually more garnered towards Americans unless we have no choice but to acknowledge their legendary greatness (i.e. Lauren Jackson, Hortencia, etc.).

With that said, list your 5-10 all-time greatest non-American born players?

What was it about them that made them legendary?

Here's just a list of names (just as a suggestion for your list) off the top of my head (in alphabetical order):

Janeth Arcain
Liz Cambage
Paula Goncalves da Silva
Lauren Jackson
Sancho Lyttle
Mwade Mabika
Hortencia Marcari
Emma Meesseman
Eva Němcová Horáková
Ticha Penichiero
Penny Taylor
Michele Timms
Natalia Zassoulskaia

Do you have a top five list? She's your #1. Who's 2-5?

....I've often considered how effective she might be if she faced off against today's *bigs*....she was good, but didn't really have the competition then, that she'd face if she played today.

Good list, but to me, a team like this without Elena Baranova is missing a big piece.

Elena Baranova in her prime was almost unguardable. Glad she spent a few seasons with the Liberty. Haixia Zheng also was one of the best centers in the world during her prime.

Took the words out of my mouth . She was the anchor for those liberty teams back in the day. Pick and Pop was her game .

Surprised by the lack of love here for Queen Hortência! She was maybe the best pure scorer in the world during her prime and a legit celebrity in Brazil. Their upset USA in 94 on the way to becoming the first non-US or Russian team to win Gold is probably to this day one of the greatest upsets in WBB history.

Adding Amaya Valdemoro, I fell in love with her during the ‘04 Olympics. She only won 1 Medal but played in 6 major comps and was one of the top scorers in most of them. Alba Torrens has a pretty damn good resume though, too with 4 medals in the last 5 comps And she’s only 30.

I always thought she could've had a better WNBA career had she not been playing behind legends (Cynthia, Sheryl and Janeth).
