The Thanksgiving tournament is going on.I didn't make it to the start of the first game because it is Sacred Heart vs. Detroit Mercy and I figure a half of basketball would be enough. There is a better crowd than I have seen in past years, which is to say over 100 fans for this game. The first observation is a bad one, no rosters available.

As for the game Sacred Heart led 34-27 at the half and has extended the lead to 41-31 with 4:50 left in the third. Heart looks better overall, but neither team will be threatening to win its conference, or even approach .500

Sacred Heart leads 43-38 after 3. My takeaway is that SHU is a well coached team , playing hard and can't shoot a lick. If they were to get hot they could beat some teams.

Sacred Heart has stretched the lead to 59-43 with 2:40 to go. The only positive I have seen from UDM is Bridgette Fox, a post player with decent moves. Otherwise the team looks bad.

Sacred Heart 66 Detroit Mercy 60 FINAL

UDM made a nice run to cut the lead to 5 with 30 seconds to go but couldn't get any closer.

Next game is Tennessee Tech vs. Northern Illinois, starting in about 28 minutes.

Northern Illinois looked like the better team on paper, in the warmups and with the announced starters. Then Tennessee Tech ran out to an 8-0 lead. TTU Leads 11-8 at the first break. The game could be competitive if Tech keeps hitting 3s

Tied at 21 after 1. I thought Tech had 6 3pointers in the quarter but they were only credited with 5. That is what is keeping them in the game.

Tied at the half 34-34. Northern Illinois ran out to a 9 point lead early in the 2nd qtr, but then went cold. Tech hit 3 consecutive 3s to take a brief lead.. Good game, but NIU should be able to win if they just get out and challenge the 3 pts shooters.

NIU 52 TTU 51 End of 3.

Tech played better than NIU for most of the 3rd quarter, but 2 late baskets gave the Huskies a 1 point lead. Should be a fun 4th quarter

An 11-0 run has pushed NIU ahead 58-51 just 1:24 into the 4th. We will see if Tech can find some open 3s to climb back.

NIU leads 72-65 with 4 minutes left. I am impressed with the fight of Tech.

75-72 NIU with 1 minute to go. A clock question has caused a stoppage. NIU ball.

NIU 82 TTU 74 FINAL

NIU hit 5 of 6 Fts to end the game and TTU couldn't hit contested 3s at the end of the game. Good effort for Tech, but they aren't quite in the class of NIU.

Next up South Dakota and Ohio St. It should start on time at 3:30 pacific

Game 4 is coming up, USC vs Nebraska. I am interested to see how the Trojans look since their earlier results haven't been too impressive. Don't really know much about Nebraska, but hopefully it will be a good game.

A little controversy at the end of the quarter. The clock stopped prematurely.

USC 22 Nebraska 20 end of 1.

USC's quickness led to 2 steals and breakaway layups, but overall evenly matched.

Nebraska 28 USC 26 midway through the second.

Neither of these teams look like they will be in the top half of their conference's. Sloppy play in general.

Nebraska 39-31 at the half. This game has been hard to watch. I preferred the Northern Illinois game because at least there was a flow. Ohio St looked better than either of these teams losing by 15. If Nebraska extends their lead I may break for dinner before the nightcap of Northern Iowa - Alabama.

USC converts the very rare 6 point play. The Trojans made a 3 pointer and got fouled under the basket. Taking the ball out of bounds they converted another 3 pointer to tie the game.

Nebraska 46-41 midway through the third.

Shooting has improved for both teams. Amazing what a halftime break can do

Nebraska and USC tied at 52 at the end of 3. USC looked much better, including their post player Jackson. Should be a good 4th quarter.

I guess food will have to wait.

Game 5 has started and it looks like it could be very entertaining.. Alabama is bigger and may be a little quicker, but Northern Iowa looks more poised and playing within themselves.

Alabama 10-9 at the first media timeout.
