OMG. No Dangerfield tonight.

Irwin and Bent start.

Worst lineup in a generation....

With Nelson-Ododa's broken toe, a mid-major is never going to have a better shot at upsetting UConn.

It's either back spasms, as announced, or Geno's masterful ploy to prod better production out of the underperformers on his team.

This team would kill any Ann Strother-led team.

Tonight they are just fortunate that Dayton is cold. For Dayton this half is the mirror image of their 1st half in that regional final in Albany. Live by the jump shot, die by the jump shot.

Lesser skilled players overall, front court depth deprived, backcourt depth deprived, no superstar, no Lou, and no Naphessa makes UConn a non final four contender and a likely mid to late top ten team.

Recruits backed off after witnessing Geno's verbal treatment of some players in recent years, and many top hs recruits went with other coaches - especially bigs.

If recruitment doesn't pick up next year, it could mean the end for the quality UConn teams of the past..

Bueckers, Edwards, McLean, Gabriel, and Muhl are probably the top class in the nation, and I'm not convinced it's at all that close. If Fudd goes to UConn the next year, we'll hear about some other streak for this team.....Stanford, Baylor, Oregon, and others might have something to say about it.

Irwin & Bent won't play much in big games but they can be very effective against most of the AAC.

They are fortunate Dayton sucks and that they themselves are shooting very well.

Annie played a generation ago. That Dayton team would beat this UConn team.

This is a shitty UConn team. No shame in that observation.

Strother graduated 12 years ago. You make it sound like she played in the 80's. And I was referring to the entire team, not just her. The difference is that that team played about as good as the could while this team still has upside.

I'll wait till March to grade them. Half the team doesn't even know the offensive sets, nevermind executing them.

I've already said on these pages that this team would destroy the 2005 team- it's an easy observation.

And yes, again easy, the team will be improved come March.

I like to grade as the season unfolds. Right now, a few things seem possible to me:

the FF streak ends
the undefeated AAC record ends
the no-consecutive loss streak ends (@SCar followed by @USF)

On the other hand, if it all clicks, all of the above will be avoided.

Watched late.

Bent and Irwin started and played a lot of minutes quite respectably. Ododa still misses too many shots but is showing increased offensive versatility. Walker's three-point shot has steadily become much more accurate since high school.

It was encouraging to see Bent/Irwin play 67 min. and see the winning margin expand.

Streaks all get broken and often take on a life of their own as we all have seen. If they can be healthy in March a FF is more likely than not IMO.

Yes! And we recognize that they aren't the caliber of many other UConn players, in this game they made positive contributions, and Molly (for once!) didn't look like a deer in the headlights.

Frankly, I was happy they got good playing time and as noted by someone else, the lead didn't shrink while they were in the game.

And ONO is playing with much more confidence, control, and isn't fouling every time she defends. Quite evident improvement over last season - and I expect we'll continue to see that improvement year over year. Think about where Tina Charles was in her sophomore year...and where she finished as a senior. Will ONO? Probably not...but Stef Dolson made significant improvements from soph to senior year, and we can hope that ONO will do the same.

Or at least I hope she does.

Feel kinda bad for Adebayo. Guessing she wishes she had stayed somewhere where she would get playing time...but who knows, maybe she's fine with being on the bench for a team with a shot at a final four.

and really impressed with Walker's improvement. I think she's your savior this year.

Walker is FINALLY living up to the expectations of the past two years. Really playing well.

And yeah, Adebayo really hasn't even been in games enough to see if she can do anything. Understand it takes time to adjust to Geno and his ways, but practice must be going badly for her, to not get more than a couple of minutes here and there so far this season.

Biggest fear is injury. Clearly, while Bent and Irwin aren't going to save UConn against quality teams - even the AAC has some worrisome teams that have always given the Huskies tough games - this year may be the end of the streak. Should Dangerfield, Walker, Williams, or ONO go out for any length of time - we're screwed.

But in the meantime, it's not the worst thing in the world to see UConn have to scrap and fight to win - it's just that we fans have forgotten how that feels!
