Buffalo has some good players. Fair and Christie, and their big center #52, in particular.

Stanford pulled away in the 3rd and deeper bench is coming in with 6 left in the 4th. ...

Buffalo has a great coach. Don't know why some top program hasn't snatched her.

Sounds like Buffalo has been hiding a secret weapon. #52 is a 6'3" freshman from Germany, Elea Gaba. She had barely played so far this season, and was averaging under 2 ppg. Today she went off for 16 on 8-14 shooting. Couldn't stop Stanford from pulling away in the second half, though.

It's that west coast defense. There's a reason Ionescu has all those TD's Rolling Eyes

She played some in the first half. Matchups didn't seem to be good for her

she's still very much a work in progress. Looking forward to seeing how she progresses during her time on the farm.

Tara introduced the freshmen at the post-game for the fans today and had them take questions from the crowd. One was "when did you start playing basketball." I think it took much of the crowd by surprise to learn that the other three started in 3rd grade while Fran didn't start until she was a freshman in high school. She's a fast learner with a ton of physical ability, but yeah, still has a long way to go. It will be fun to watch her get there, for sure!

Didn't see the game (of course.....never see PAC-10 games back here) but I think that's true of most big girls, no matter when they started playing basketball. In high school, even if they play in extremely competitive programs, they don't have to do a whole lot except hang around the basket and be tall and either swat or grab the ball and put it in. In college, especially in a P5 program, there's SO much more to learn. I think it was Geno who said they take a couple of years to learn it (he put it a little more strongly though). But it's rare that they're really strong coming out of the gate.
