If the league can get it's act together, it could potentially have 14 teams by 2022.

2020: Adds Los Angeles, SkyBlue are bought by Red Bulls[10 teams]
2021: Adds Louisville & Bay Area(Barcelona)[12 teams]
2022: Adds Cincinnati & either Nashville, Minnesota or Boston.

I don't see the league going past 12 teams. I think we get Los Angeles and Hartford for 2020 and Louisville for 2021. Any other ownership groups would be up for relocation.

EAST: New England (Hartford), SkyBlue(Red Bulls owned), Washington, Orlando, Louisville, North Carolina.
WEST: Chicago, Houston, FC Reign, Los Angeles, Portland, Utah.

Louisville expansion team to be announced by the end of the season. Team will be owned by the USL Louisville team. LAFC's potential team is on hold for now. Probable 2021 start.

Louisville along with a "west coast team" will be added for 2020. LAFC is expected to now join in 2021 with a "southeast MLS team". This would bring the league up to 13 teams by 2021 if no one folds or relocates.

France's Lyon club in talks to purchase NWSL team. Reports are they are in talks with two current teams to possibly take over ownership. If this falls through, maybe they're granted an expansion team?

things are heating up in the NWSL expansion talks. Sacramento is expected to be announced this week. Louisville is in for 2021 with an announcement expected next week. Cincinnati has just announced it is talking with the NWSL to add a team once their new stadium is built, possibly to join in 2022.

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/10/18/fc-cincinnati-interested-nwsl-expansion-sacramento-could-join-too

2020: Sacramento
2021: Louisville & Atlanta
2022: Cincinnati & Los Angeles

Plus there's the interest from Barcelona & France's Lyon club for teams. Could we see 16 teams by 2022?

Ugh---that's worse than Dash and I didn't think the wold be easy to do. It's about as bad as magicjack. The league should really step in a tell them no--much like the NBA did when Vancouver moved to Memphis and wanted to call the team the Express.

I'd settle for Louisville Express over Proof Louisville. The article stats this was picked over 100 choices. Like this was really the best they could do?

Social media isn't being kind about the name. They don't start until 2021, so maybe they can change it?

Get Mothers Against Drunk Driving on it, throw in some religious groups to smash them for promoting drinking, threaten some boycotts and maybe then they will change the name.

Louisville Express would be just fine.

I also read that it was picked over 100 other names and my first thought was I could probably come up with 100 better than what they picked. Someone, somewhere had to be drunk, high or both to pick that nonsense name.

If Louisville turns out be a losing team, you could say that they "drove them to drink". Wink

The soon to be announced Sacramento expansion team has trademarked California Storm on Nov. 9. Seems like everything's in order, just a matter of it getting announced.

USWNT star Rapinoe wants more investment into NWSL

Earlier this month, the U.S. National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced new compensation guidelines for 2020, including a nearly 20% increase in the overall salary cap as well as allocation money allowing teams to invest in some players above the maximum salary.

However, the funds cannot be used to pay players who are members of the U.S. and Canadian national teams, a move that Rapinoe, a standout for the NWSL's Reign FC, criticised.
