what is Brooklyn born, St. John's alum Mark Jackson doing?

Jackson is working with Jeff Van Gundy. Why not complete the set? Someone should suggest Mike Breen as the coach. He actually worked for the WNBA previously.

I hear Penny Toler is out of a job. She has coaching experience. Just needs to clean up her language a little.

Actually, Becky Hammon as GM/coach/whatever title she wants makes a great deal of sense.

First and foremost, all this virtue signalling about a female head coach in the NBA is just noise -- it will not happen in the near future because of the ingrained misogyny of far too many players, coaches, front office types and owners. There are a lot of qualified candidates for NBA head coaching jobs who would not come in carrying the baggage of being female in a heavily macho, testosterone-laden world, and the only reason to hire Hammon would be as a publicity move to distract from a horrible team. No team with a good chance to make the playoffs will hire a woman -- it's simply way too risky and there's way too much money at stake.

Second, she will never have a better bargaining position than right now. The Liberty need a dramatic move as they (literally) return from the wilderness, and hiring the beloved Hammon would be a huge boost. From Hammon's perspective, she may never be in a position like this, to get the money and authority she wants, again.

Third, given her ability and the resources available, she should be in a position to succeed after a couple years of struggle. Presumably, she will be one of the top coaches in the league, which will attract players, and New York is a great place to live.

All in all, it seems like the perfect move, as it would boost Hammon, the Liberty and the WNBA all at the same time.

Happy for John Kolb and really thankful Joe Tsai believes enough in us to make it happen

8k configuration is perfect smaller lower deck than MSG

Now its on US

Getting to play at one of the top basketball arenas, getting Ionescu, a new head coach, this has to appeal to some of the top FAs. Curious who the Liberty could bring in for 2020.

C...B...A

I can see so many different ways it can go...big question will be how many maxes will a new cap create

Will it be where you had 6 maxes or ppl would take off salary just to play on a super team or will amounts ne big enough you have more spread out

Hopefully there's meaningful free agency this cba rather than just cast offs

Wow, there's been a flood of great news lately! Very excited about the move to Barclays. I'll finally be able to attend some games again next year, after only having attended one (at Barclays) in the past couple years. Things are looking up!

And the Liberty are already taking season ticket deposits(check out the Facebook page). Glad they announced this early, can really get a jump on ticket sales through Nets games now, too.

Can we name a new coach on Monday, draft Ionescu on Tuesday, and start the 2020 season at the Barclay Center on Thursday night? (The Nets have a preseason game there on Wednesday night.)

Do we really have to wait?

That is the bane of WNBA fandom -- 7 months of waiting for a 5-month season.

Which is why I'm in favor of a longer season(38? 40?). Pay would go up for players. Preseason in late April. Regular season runs May-Sept. Playoffs in October.

Advocate for a winter league with max salaries around $300,000. I think Euroleague would dread that because there’s already a decent chunk of players that don’t go overseas at current WNBA salaries.

To me, the problem in America for the WNBA moving to the winter, besides salary alternatives for the players, is competition with other sports - namely their male counterparts (but football & hockey to a lesser degree as well). I'd suggest the league eventually add on a month's worth of games and run a full 6 months, fully ending in early November - it'd be easier for players playing overseas to arrive late to a club (even, say, playing half a season post-Christmas) than leave early, particularly if their overseas team is in the playoffs. WNBA Playoffs already get somewhat overshadowed by football and pre-season basketball anyway.

But that's a topic not for this thread. My sister lives in Brooklyn - maybe I'll have to consider visiting her in one of the sweaty summer months now Very Happy
