I had bad info and thought that the Puerto Rican league draft was this week, but it was last week. Jazmon Gwathmey is joining the league for the first time so she had to go through the draft and was obviously picked first. Traditional rookies were the next two picks as Deanna Kuzmanic from UAB and Sofia Roma from Duke were picked.

Also from last week, the Chinese league has announced their schedule and there are big changes. They will not start the season until after the November national team games, opening on the 21st. They will play until January 2nd and then take a month plus break for the Lunar New Year and national team play again. After resuming on the 12th of February, they will not finish the regular season until March 26th this year. Quarterfinals are April 1st to 11th, semifinals are April 15th to 25th, and finals run April 29th to May 9th.

First update of the new season from Spain:
http://www.womensbasketball247.com/2019/09/spanish-supercup-september-22nd/

The first article was supposed to be Germany yesterday, but they have a new stats platform that is apparently not ready for use yet. Hopefully they figure it out tomorrow or soon.

Germany is irritating me more and more as it should have been finished today. I would actually consider dropping it, but there are so many Americans in that league.

Talk about no rest for the weary. Bec Allen plays 6 games in 6 days during Asia Cup, ending on Sunday in India. By Wednesday, she's in Poland playing a Euroleague Qualifier. Shocked Still managed 16 points in 19 minutes, shooting 5-6/1-2/4-4. Cool

So I understand most of the European basketball system, having grown up following soccer and its broadly similar structure. But what is the European League and why does it exist? Do some of these teams play in their domestic leagues, either EuroLeague or EuroCup, and the European League on top? Seems a bit much.

The European (Women's Basketball) League is a cross-national league not run by FIBA. It used to be the Eastern European Women's Basketball League, but started taking more teams from countries not in Eastern Europe and renamed themselves. The teams do play in domestic league and some of them play in other European competitions (TTT Riga won last season while competing in EuroLeague, but are not playing this season). The Central European Women's League and the Women's Adriatic Basketball Association League also exist. It looks like the old Baltic League is no longer competing and instead Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are having some kind of unified league now.

Are Kursk waiting on extra official Americans, or are they going with a roster that is technically all-European this season?

Bonner ?

Is officially North Macedonian these days, I presume (I think she was naturalised back when they were still FYROM). Although I don't remember if she's ever actually played a game for them.

All the roster listings that I have seen so far have them with Bonner, Prince, Ndour and European Europeans. They did bulk up their domestic core slightly, but they clearly have less of a budget to work with this season. I suppose it could give them flexibility to add players later.

Ekaterinburg has no excuses this season. All their main challengers are weaker and they have a healthy Faulkner. If Torrens is back to her best, they should be utterly unstoppable in Europe. Vandersloot, Quigley, Griner, and whichever fourth foreigner they choose should be fine domestically.
