An Ex-Vanderbilt Football Player Videotaped His Teammates Raping His Girlfriend
Quote: |
"I've been an outstanding citizen. A strong Christian and raised right by my family with a high level of character and never got in trouble in my whole life," Brandon told Nashville's News Channel 5, which is currently streaming the trial. |
And the myth persists that there are "rapists" and "good guys", I guess allowing some guys to never think about it until after the fact? Whoops! I'm a rapist.
He's being retried this week for five counts of aggravated rape, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, and one count of unlawful photography.
Quote: |
Brandon and his teammates, Corey Batey, Jaborian "Tip" McKenzie, and Brandon Banks, brought the woman back to his dorm room in Gillette Hall, where the latter three sexually assaulted her. Vandenburg took video footage of the incident, and according to prosecutors, "even passed out the condoms." |

The Stanford Rapists Letter to the Judge Is Almost as Disgusting as His Fathers
Quote: |
Brock is the latest in a long line of campus rapists using alcohol to absolve themselves from blame. Of the college date rapists interviewed in a 1984 study, 62% felt that they had committed rape as a result of alcohol, and didn't consider themselves "real criminals." But last time we checked, rape is a "real" crime. |

I'm not sure of the local/legal definition. He took pictures of her genitals in the dorm hallway.

It is basically the "peeping tom" or "upskirt" law. It suggests that if a person is in some form of undress (nude, in underwear, etc) that person needs to consent to having their picture taken, even if in public.
Laws enacted after the Massachusetts subway case, in which it was thrown out by the courts, tend to also include a provision that makes it illegal to put a camera between someone legs with the intent of capturing their privates or their undergarments.

State Trooper Gets Just 6 Months For Raping Car Accident Victim
Because, you know, what's the real harm?
He drives up, responding to her accident. Sees pill bottles and such, so puts her in the back of his car, then drives to an isolated area and threatens jail time if she won't have sex with him. Then drops her off outside a closed store at like 2 AM! He got fired, and has to register as a sex offender, but for this complete abuse of power he got a pretty sweet plea:
Quote: |
Samuel H. McHenry II, 36, pleaded guilty on Thursday to misdemeanor sexual misconduct under a deal with prosecutors. He originally faced charges of rape and sodomy for the December 2015 incident, but those were dismissed.
Under the agreement, the ex-troopers state certification will be revoked and he will be required to register as a sex offender, the Associated Press reported.
McHenry will also be permitted to serve his sentence in increments at his own discretion, WSFA reported. The 182 days must be served within the next year. |

Former East Longmeadow High School athlete charged with sexually assaulting unconscious classmates sentenced to probation

Quote: |
"He can now look forward to a productive life without being burdened with the stigma of having to register as a sex offender," said attorney Thomas Rooke, who defended David Becker, 18, in court. "The goal of this sentence was not to impede this individual from graduating high school and to go onto the next step of his life, which is a college experience." |

Dear God, that is disgusting.
And it's more than likely that the high school "rumors" are true, and more than these two girls were victims. But of course, it would be totally unfair to label him as that because he is an athlete.

"Rape and Injustice: A Letter to My Daughter" by CNN anchor Christie Paul.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/03/opinions/explaining-stanford-rape-case-to-my-daughter-paul/index.html
Quote: |
She was a victim, but she wasn't weak. She was violated but she wasn't conquered. She was stunned, but she refused to be in denial. And she refused to be denied. |
Quote: |
Then I wondered about his family.
I think many people understand that as a parent you'll do anything to protect your child. Even write an absurd letter to the judge, as Turner's father did, pleading for leniency. But I couldn't help wondering how they'd feel if the victim had been their childif they were in that courtroom listening to a daughter reading her letter. How different would the letter they'd write to the judge be then? |
Quote: |
You may think I'm tough on you sometimes, as parents, we do our children no service by coddling them or making excuses for them. In this case it's criminal to do so. And it must be stopped.
When children do something wrong, we need to tell them they're wrong. We need to tell them that we love them but they need to own their actions. If we don't teach them that when they're young, there's a good chance a jury will teach them when they're grown. |
Quote: |
But I have hope because the woman who was once a victim is now a victor.

There have been sick people doing sick things throughout all of history.
We just didn't have an internet to facilitate learning about something that happened thousands of miles away from us in the middle of nowhere.

Definitely agree with that. At least with the internet when judges do stupid shit like this we can make our voices heard and perhaps the victim can get at least some solace and feel quite as alone when her family and judge seem more concerned with the father's relationship with her brothers than what he did to her.

Can we just put both Turner and Multhaup in prison, for life, for being of no use to our society?
Quote: |
Multhaup states that Turner never intended to have sexual intercourse with the unconscious person. He merely wanted sexual outercourse, which, according to Multhaup, does not show intent to rape and thus warrants a lesser sentence. But according to some scientists, lawyers, and activists, Turner and Multhaup are misusing the term. |
Quote: |
“Based on what I’ve read about the conviction,” Moon says, “nothing Turner did could be considered outercourse. He admitted to digitally penetrating his victim when she was unable to give consent. That’s rape.” Her thoughts are echoed by lawyers as well, such as author and criminal defense lawyer Norm Pattis. |
Quote: |
Yet, even if Turner’s plea is unsuccessful, sexologists and sex educators worry that Multhaup’s definition of outercourse could misinform the public on its usage and importance. “For his attorney to argue that this is a ‘lesser’ violation is both false and dangerous to victims who might now not want to report their assaults because there wasn’t penetration,” McGuire says. |

Who is Emily Doe?
It's what many wondered about the anonymous woman Brock Turner sexually assaulted in 2015 after her 7,000-word victim impact statement went viral, sparking outrage and declaring to a nation swollen with survivors that they were not alone.
Three years later, the woman who demanded we absorb the horrors of rape wants us to know something else: her name. |
