Liz is there mostly based on reputation.

Disagree. Vegas is a lottery team, without Cambage. Not only that, but she's (mostly) adequate defensively, and dominant offensively. In fact, the only thing that can stop her is the officials allowing defensive players to pound on her, without getting called for fouls.

Aladyyn might want to see DeShields do this against a real, legitimate WNBA team, and not the Mercury first. Smile

DeShields is inconsistent, but when she's on it's a beautiful thing to watch

She's McCoughtry reincarnated... you guys would have been sooo much better off, if you had kept that pick.

I don't think this one more good game will change my mind about the 15 bad games she's had this season.

But she still had 20 good ones so that counts for something right?

Just because Diamond shoots poorly in a game does not mean she had a bad game.DD had games where she shot poorly but still contributed in other areas. For example:

DD shot 5-15 vs ATL but had 12 reb,6 asst and held Sykes scoreless in 12 minutes ( 0-2 fg) and Coffey to 6 pts on 1-7 shooting.

DD shot 6-16 vs NY but held Nurse to 6 pts on 2-7 fg shooting.

DD shot 4-13 vs Dal but had 5 reb, 4 asst and held Thornton to 10 pts on 3-12 shooting.

DD shot 4-10 vs NY but had 8 reb, 4 asst and held Nurse to 14 pts on 5-16 shooting.

DD shot 4-13 vs Conn, but had 9 reb and held Stricklen scoreless on 0-5 shooting(15 min) and helped hold C.Williams to only 7 pts on 3-9 shooting.

Chicago won all 5 of these game.

Something we should take into account about Diamond is that she changed her diet during the offseason. In training camp, she lost 12 pounds. I made a comment during the regular season that Diamond looked sluggish, tired and not as alert on the court. It's very possible that the recent change in DD diet contributed to her mid season shooting slump. I found it odd that a player who shot 42% during her rookie year was shooting 35% mid-way through the season. Thankfully, Diamond righted the ship.

Last 7 gms of reg sea: 19.6p/49% fg
Last 9 gms of reg sea: 20.2p/46% fg
Rd 1 vs Phoe: 25 pts on 10-19 fg

Diamond finished the season shooting 39.9%, one missed shot below 40%.......Diamond shot a higher fg% than most of the starting sg/sf in the league...Lets also not forget that Diamond played through multiple ankle sprains this season. The first sprain coming right before the season opener vs Minnesota.

Hopefully Diamond gets used to her diet and doesn't get injured next season then. If you have to say things like that to excuse her poor performances then it's clear she shouldn't be All-WNBA this season.

Diamond wasn't the only all-league player to have a number of low percentage shooting games.

J.Jones shot sub 40% 15 times
Bonner shot sub 40% 17 times
Diamond shot sub 40% 16 times

Bonner finished the season shooting 37% from the field.

I will say this. If Maya, Taurasi, Angel, Bird and Stewart were healthy, Diamond would not have made the all-league team. DD will have to up her game in 2020 if she has any plans on making All-league......How Diamond ended this season is how she needs to play all of next season.

Banner has no business being on the all-league team neither FWIW. JJ was still an efficient scorer, rebound leader, and one of the best defenders.

Guards I would vote ahead of Diamond: Sloot, Mitchell, Toliver, McBride, Quigley, Ogunbowale, Gray for sure, then CWilliams and Nurse I'd have probably on the same level as her. But I think those 7 are all very clearly ahead of her and it will be a travesty if she makes it (same goes for Bonner)

For what it's worth, which clearly ain't much, I'd point out that if you're doing these teams with the traditional GGFFC format - as the League does - then both DeShields and McBride have been starting forwards all season long (as has Bonner, who they also might even more ludicrously call a guard). Of course, with the number of frontcourt players everyone is shoe-horning into their teams, DeShields has even less chance of making it if she was counted as a forward.

This has been a good discussion. Let's not let it devolve into the personal, please.

Thank you.

I'm just going to end it on this: in a season where offensive efficiency is as down as it has been, what players like Mitchell and Quigley have been able to achieve is even more impressive than usual. Here are players who played at least 10 minutes per game and scored more efficiently than Leilani Mitchell:
Elena Delle Donne
Allie Quigley
Emma Meesseman
Tianna Hawkins
Stefanie Dolson
Sylvia Fowles

I don't care that she only scores 13 points instead of 16
