Every guard in this league except a couple aren't any good and I'm not aware of anybody who plays defense except a couple frontcourt players, so this was too hard so I ended up guessing for All-Defensive team. Smile

Sorry I'm late -- it takes some time to go through every candidate and check their stats, etc. It's a good exercise for me regardless of whether the vote counts.

FWIW ...

Most Valuable Player
For our MVP ballot, I'm asking you to submit your Top 5 Choices. Your MVP vote will receive 10 points, #2 will get 7 points, #3 will get 5 points, #4 will get 3 points, and #5 will be 1 point.

MVP: EDD -- no doubt
2. Britney Griner -- a great, great player
3. Natasha Howard -- A/TO very good for post, 2.2 spg
4. Nneka Ogwumike -- slightly better than Jonquel, PER was the tiebreak
5. Jonquel Jones -- worst A/TO among candidates

Coach of the Year

COY: James Wade

Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie Team

ROY: Napheesa Collier -- clear choice
2. Arike Ogunbowale -- few rookie candidates elevate no-D Arike
3. Jackie Young -- 6.6 ppg, 32.2% shooting
4. Brianna Turner -- PER (14) below average, better than Young
5. Teaira McCowan -- PER at 11, eight assists all season

Defensive Player of the Year/All Defense

No idea. You'd have to look at game film of every candidate, in-depth, over the course of the whole season -- while knowing what the defensive strategy was being employed on every possession.

Steals are all but meaningless, blocks tell very little, and defensive metrics are shaky.

Sixth Woman of the Year

6WOY: Dearica Hamby, with Cheyenne Parker close behind

Most Improved Player of the Year

MIP: Mercedes Russell -- this is a tough category because you'd really need to research every player to see who really deserved it. That said, Russell really stepped up, and like so many Tennessee players, took several years after college to learn how to play.

All-WNBA Teams

I wish it were posts, wings and point guards, or just posts and perimeter. The positions are an issue -- Nneka's a forward but played center a lot, in terms of who she guarded.

1st Team:
G - Courtney Vandersloot
G - Kristi Toliver -- played 27 games
F - Elena Delle Donne
F - Natasha Howard
C- Britney Griner -- makes everyone else a better defender

2nd Team:

Now it gets difficult

G - Arike Ogunbowale -- pains me, but scoring trumps defense
G - Allie Quigley -- best shooter in the game
F - A'ja Wilson -- smooth, understated, outstanding
F - DeWanna Bonner -- despite the unsightly shooting
C - Nneka Ogwumike (position shift)

You're right -- McCowan should be fifth. Knew I left someone out ...

But she had eight assists and 44 turnovers and a PER of 11.

I think she's going to be a force in the league, and potentially a franchise cornerstone, but she wasn't that spectacular this year.
