Maintaining his composure, Lil Nas X replies: “It’s not like being forced, it’s just that growing up (I’m meant to) hate this shit.” When Hart questions what he’s referring to, Lil Nas continues: “Homosexuality, gay people. Come on now, if you’re really from the hood, you know.”

“For me – the ‘cool dude with the song’ – on top of everything to say this,” the rapper continues. “Any other time I’m doing this for attention in my eyes, but if you’re doing this while you’re at the top, you know it’s for real, and it’s showing that it doesn’t really matter.”

I guess Kevin Hart can go back on Ellen DeGeneres' show and get forgiveness (since she apparently spoke for the entire LGBT community when she did so).

As an aside, no single person is qualified to offer the forgiveness of all of queer America. But Ellen is a white cisgender woman who is widely beloved (not to mention obscenely wealthy). While this may make her one of the visible and high-profile queer Americans, her "forgiveness" of Kevin Hart it does not address the issues of homophobia within the Black community.

It is one thing to believe in second chances. It is another thing to recognize a person has changed...in that he is being less overt and direct with his homophobic viewpoints, choosing to refrain from posting them on Twitter and instead having his true feelings revealed during a recorded interview of someone else.
