I'm not at all clear on how this heretofore unsolvable problem has been in existence for 2000 years. Certainly, there were no 'cameras' that long ago....clarification?

Same problem affects lenses of all types. Magnifying glasses like the Nimrud Lens have been used since antiquity. Pliny the Elder described emperor Nero using a corrective lens to view gladiatorial matches.
