The only one of those players I've even heard of is Burdick, who is terrible.

My undying contempt for the Storm aside, though, I commend Force 10's continued commitment to women's sports, in general, and women's basketball, in particular.

Good thing I did not try to sponsor a team to see if I could get my money back on having them dominate the west regionals. I would not be able to put together a team that could compete with this group regularly. I guess I will see them when they play in Oakland though.

Good for everyone involved if they can have some fun with it and even make some money.

By the way, do they expect to make money, and how? I don't expect there would be much viewership interest.

There are six tournaments in the West region with $2,000 grand prizes.

There is $25,000 in prize money available to individuals (it might help to play three tournament in other regions too.

There will be some kind of larger event in September that will likely also have prize money.

All four players were, at least, in a WNBA camp. Burdick, Peterson and Harper were all on rosters recently. Huff was drafted by the Liberty and was one of their last cuts.

Burdick's a lot better in 3x3 games than regular basketball.

I have yet to see a full schedule, much less stats for one of these events, but they did not make the final in their first event in Brooklyn:
https://www.usab.com/news-events/news/2019/07/red-bull-3x-brooklyn.aspx

Local pros won the title in overtime, which is good since the amateurs they beat would have to decline the prize money. They managed to do it with only three players too, which is impressive and means they get more money.

Slocum, Charles, Collier, and Onyenwere were the runners up.

Man, this whole 3 on 3 basketball thing is taking over all over the place. Olympic competition, professional leagues, amateur leagues. More power to them. Too bad I'm not a former NBA player. I could try out for the BIG3. Wink Laughing Laughing Laughing

Red Bull is doing a better job of getting results and teams out in a timely manner now.

Force 10 wins in a four team field in Denver:
https://play.fiba3x3.com/events/a11dbf70-5f0f-4ca5-aa2c-77e934b91fc0/schedule

If there are teams with amateurs do teams get prize money even if they finish below 3rd?
https://play.fiba3x3.com/events/a11dbf70-5f0f-4ca5-aa2c-77e934b91fc0/teams

There were six teams in the Philly tournament, including the well named We Showed Up.

The New York winners were knocked out in the semis and then Nova, featuring Maggie Lucas, won the final:

Is there some sort of IOC tabulation of points that will be used for Olympic qualification purposes? I can't seem to find a definitive list of points anywhere.

I believe the relevant list is this one: https://fiba3x3.com/en/rankings/federation.html#women

Thanks for pointing me toward that link. I must say that the "How It Works" tab doesn't provide a lot of clarification. I still can't determine if all of those points from the different categories (U23, U18, etc.) are then aggregated to determine the overall standings. Also, individual players do not qualify, right? Teams qualify, and then it is the determination of the individual countries to field four-player teams? Also, I noticed that many of the points accumulated via the Red Bull 3X3 tournaments have expiration dates attached to some of the events. I am just a little discouraged that there is a not a definitive source of clarification for this future Olympic event. It appears that the only way that the American women's team will qualify is via the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

It's usually out there somewhere, it's just often hard to find and then difficult to decipher. Try https://www.nocnsf.nl/stream/qualification-system-games-of-the-xxxii-olympiad-tokyo-2020-international-basketball-federation-fiba-basketball-3x3.pdf .

And yes, as far as I can tell it's the country that qualifies, not the individual players/team, but they qualify via the players' world rankings or via playing in the qualifying tournaments. And you do need some kind of 3x3 ranking to be in the team. USA Basketball couldn't just say "screw this" two weeks before the Olympics and send Bird, Taurasi, Griner and Moore as their 3x3 squad. And right now the first thing they need to worry about is qualifying for the Qualifying Tournament. That doesn't look a dead cert yet.

Sounds like Milwaukee did not have a women's tournament and got rained out so all eyes were on a full 12 team field in Oakland this weekend, but unfortunately I was unable to make it.

Force X is finding that winning these tournaments are not a walk in the park, losing in the semifinals to the eventual champions Bay Area Hoopers, featuring Kamilah Jackson, Jazmine Jackson, Jazmine Perkins, and KC Waters. The runners up were Nnenna Okereke, Charlee Jones (who as Charlee Underwood gave one of the most memorable performances ever in our league during my high school years), Raquel Avila, and Oderah Chidom. Their semifinal involved another former Duke player in LaNedra Brown as she went back to school and got a regular job after a long pro career.

So this is unfortunate: I had no idea this was going on, or where it was. I might have gone had I known.

Publicity is hard to come by, and hard to make happen, but it would have been nice if high school coaches would have known about it ...

I did post this a while ago:

Now there's a big-time event. I wonder if they have metal nets.

Yes, 3x3 is supposed to be played outside. The United States seems to be the only country obsessed with playing it indoors. The last championships in Las Vegas were played outdoors, although they insisted on using an indoor floor instead of the special surface the big international tournaments use.

I will be interested in seeing how the upcoming Red Bull 3x3 tour is handled as they start play in Detroit on Saturday. They are supposed to be in Oakland at Soldiertown for one of their stops on August 3rd.

They do need to work on this whole process a bit, but I am assuming that they have learned a lot from the first year.

There were three tournaments this weekend, but New Orleans only had one for apparently.

Force X does win at their home event in Seattle:
https://play.fiba3x3.com/events/fd5b37da-bd1c-4d56-8003-72ba6755be5a/schedule

There were some familiar names in the nine team field, but not all on the same team:
https://play.fiba3x3.com/events/fd5b37da-bd1c-4d56-8003-72ba6755be5a/teams

There were only four teams in Salt Lake City and Jen Hamson was the biggest name as she and Deathly Hallows got the win:

Seems like they're trying to cram in a load of tournaments to reach those awkward criteria that FIBA have laid out for Olympic qualification. There was as much stuff in there about organisation and participation as there was about actual performance.

Force X headed to Houston this weekend and apparently scared away the rest of the competition as there were no other women's teams. As a result, they pulled in three men's teams getting ready for the men's division taking place right after the women's tournament and took second place, beating a team that finished winless in the men's tournament and losing twice to a team that lost in the quarterfinals.

There were four teams in the Minneapolis tournament and that was played:

It was a busy weekend with three tournaments to choose from.

Force X opted for Raleigh where they came out on top in a 5 team field, needing to bring Alexa Middleton and Briana Day into the fold for this one. There were a few other familiar names playing:
https://play.fiba3x3.com/events/a8c1eb2b-31cb-4e4b-8b25-9792d0c04501/teams
https://play.fiba3x3.com/events/a8c1eb2b-31cb-4e4b-8b25-9792d0c04501/schedule

7 teams played in Cleveland and the biggest names were on Count It, who won with only 3 players:

https://play.fiba3x3.com/events/d92e0b81-870c-4598-afa9-9613c59eb4d6/schedule

5 teams played in Phoenix on Sunday and LA Premier, which probably would have been picked as the favorites based on roster, won the tournament:

The points are on their individual profiles so I guess it does.

No Force X team in the weekend's lone tournament in Dallas. That left six teams, including possibly my new favorite name:
https://play.fiba3x3.com/events/929ef1aa-0c89-404d-b69d-13bff9c2fac6/teams

Misfits ended up winning by a big margin against Black Magic in the final, which seems like an upset given the players listed on the rosters:
