Strange that Trump has been saying "crisis at the border" and asking for money and Pelosi, Don Lemon, Jim Acosta, and other Dems have been assuring us that there is no crisis at the border. Then when a father tries to swim a river to get in, knowing we have an "if you make it in, you are here for life" policy - which Trump has not changed one bit - Trump gets the heat for their deaths. In fact, people have died crossing illegally for decades under multiple administrations, including Obama.

I just read that the US law does not allow "crime asylum". It follows the international asylum laws that are for "persecuted minority groups", whether that is religious, ethnic or political. The "crime asylum", which now extends to women who are the victims of domestic abuse, comes from judges decisions.

The question for the Democrat candidates (and all Democrats) should not be "will you give free health care to illegal aliens" but "will you open the border with Latin America - and if not - why not?". Immigration levels should be determined by American lawmakers, not citizens of foreign countries. Unless American lawmakers decide to put the power in the hands of the economic migrants..

That’s a lot of misquoting.

What Trump meant was that too many people were trying to get into the country. That wasn’t a crisis.

The concentration camps are a man made crisis from Trump.

I am not a mind reader, but I would bet that if Trump meant there were too many people trying to get into the country - he also had an ILLEGALLY attached to it. The Democrats have never moved to make unlimited economic migration from Latin America legal. And Trump would also have meant that the ILLEGAL flood of people was overwhelming our border patrol, detention centers and court system.

People were held in "concentration camps" under Obama. The original "kids in cages" picture was from the Obama era. And the whole "kids can't be held more than 20 days with adults" decision came from a court settlement by the Clinton administration. They weren't holding them in hotels, they were using "concentration camps".

Quote:
(CNN)The Supreme Court on Friday cleared the way for the Trump administration to use $2.5 billion from the Department of Defense to construct parts of a wall along the southwestern border that the government argues is necessary to protect national security.

The decision allows the Defense Department money to be spent now while a court battle plays out over whether the government had the authority to divert funds that were not appropriated for the wall. The Supreme Court voted 5-4, along ideological lines, to allow the funds to be used while the court appeals proceed.

In a brief order, the court said that it was ruling in favor of the Trump administration before the litigation has played out because the government had made a "sufficient showing" that the challengers did not have the legal right to bring the case.

Trump Boasted That His Border Wall Was 'Virtually Impenetrable.' Then an 8-Year-Old Girl Climbed a Replica

Quote:
Several people have already managed to climb up the wall replica, including 8-year-old Lucy Hancock. Hancock didn’t use any ropes or other tools to climb the wall, but wore a belay, a safety device designed to catch a falling climber. An adult climber, Erik Kloeker, was up and over the wall in about 40 seconds.

TRUMP IS BLOWING UP A NATIONAL MONUMENT IN ARIZONA TO MAKE WAY FOR THE BORDER WALL

https://theintercept.com/2020/02/06/border-wall-construction-organ-pipe/

Quote:
THE EXPANSION OF the border wall under Trump has been made possible, in part, by a post-9/11 piece of legislation known as the Real ID Act, which grants DHS sweeping authority to waive existing laws in order to construct border barriers. The Trump administration has used the act to waive dozens of laws — from the Environmental Protection Act to the Endangered Species Act — in order to push through new border wall construction projects.

Hmmm... maybe Congress should be looking at revising this Real ID Act?

Quote:
The entire episode is deeply political, Grijalva said, with the Trump administration clearly bent on completing as many new miles of wall construction as possible ahead of the 2020 election. “What’s particularly frightening right now is that Trump has weaponized DHS, politically weaponized them,” Grijalva explained. “And so right now, it’s about satisfying that political agenda.”

I hope The Intercept directs some of their reporting towards uncovering the rich American lawbreakers who hire Latin Americans illegally instead of Americans. Negatively impacting the poorest Americans - that the law they are breaking is designed to protect.

It's great and also surprising to see Pew Research taking a stand against illegal immigration. They have had a long history of advocating that Latin Americans and the US rich determine US immigration policy, rather than Congress.

This family thought Biden would stop Trump's wall. Now his administration is plodding along to seize their land.

Quote:
a federal judge on Wednesday granted the government's request for the immediate seizure of 6.6 acres of the Cavazos family land, and the Biden administration could roll in the bulldozers at any moment, breaking an early campaign promise.

Quote:
Pressed about Biden’s previous comments rejecting the construction of more border wall during his presidency, the White House official said the administration had no choice but to use the money Congress appropriated in 2019 during the Trump administration.

“In order to follow the law, we had to use this money,” the official said, adding that the timing of the environmental waiver was related to the end of the fiscal year.

Mayorkas, however, struck a more urgent tone in the notice released overnight: “There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas.”
