When the New Big East (NBE) teams left the BE they paid an exit fee to the remaining few BE teams. (UConn never left the BE. They renamed the conference to the AAC and sold the rights to the name to the NBE)

So UConn collected and shouldn't now complain about paying.

Apparently it's going to cost >$20M, and any money that's not left from UConn's AAC revenue is going to come from student fees, all at a school with a $40M athletic deficit.
