I know we're past the trade deadline, but since Williams has in fact been suspended, if it were allowed, I would like to offer Adam the option to reverse the trade we made or to take one of our other auxillary players instead - that is to say TRP or S. Johnson.

It's nice that you're trying to do the right thing, but this can't be allowed. It's really a shame it didn't happen before 6 o clock yesterday. But as you said earlier, the trade was made with adamj95 knowing fully well about the risk of Williams being suspended. I can't bend rules that are clear and don't have problems.

The one thing I can do is point out that Adam is 2nd on the waiver wire. If you can get Erimus to agree not to claim whoever you drop, you can get the player to Adam's team that way.

We've got two games still going that are incredibly close, going by point per game averages:

Admiral Needa needs Kia Nurse to score 24.4 to catch my team. Kia averages 24.3 per game.

toad455 needs Tina Charles to score 30.6 to catch calbearman/tbinta. Tina averages 31.6 per game.

The game between Erimus and WNBA 09 will be interesting if Diana Taurasi plays. After coming back, Taurasi sat out Phoenix's first game of the week. If she plays in this one, she will have to outpoint Amanda Zahui B by 8.3 to catch WNBA 09. Zahui B averages 28.6 per game. In the one game she played, Taurasi scored 13.6 points in 15 minutes. I have no idea if Taurasi is playing tonight.

Congratulations to J-Spoon for defeating first place Mojo/myrtle and drawing within one game of them! Also congratulations to hoopmom for her win over adamj95: even with that win, hoopmom still has a losing record despite scoring the most points in the league. I guess it is better to be lucky than good!

I just have one thing to say. GO KIA! GO LIBERTY! Real team over fantasy team always!

J-Spoon definitely has our number. He's beaten us badly twice for our only losses so far.

Since the game between myself and Admiral Needa was close I decided I to go back and double check the scores. As it turned out, my margin of victory was increased by 6 points, because Natalie Achonwa scored 16 points, not 10 as I recorded it the first time.

Just a reminder that the current week includes Tuesday, July 30, which is when Dallas and Chicago will play their RFBL Week 10 games (they don't play again before the All-Star break).

Week 11 begins with the games on Wednesday, July 31.

Fantasy league standings starting to look like the WNBA standings. Lose one or two games in a row and you can go from 1-3 to 7-9 ouch...

Yes, there's a lot up for grabs these final three weeks! Remember that the playoffs have three levels of qualification:

1st place: receives automatic berth in the championship game
2nd-4th place: receive byes first week
5th-7th place: 3 teams play first week, high score advances

Without calculating tiebreakers and looking at the schedule, no one has clinched the playoffs, and any of the top 8 teams could finish in first! Considering the tiebreakers and schedule, that might not be enitrely true, but the bottom line is most teams could finish anywhere from first place to out of the playoffs. The next three weeks will be very important!

It seems like we are always on the same page with the Liberty players since we watch so closely. I'm surprised neither one of us claimed her sooner. For some reason, it slipped my mind until I realized I have some guard injury problems. I can't expect a game like her last, but I may have to use her this week.

Unpleasant commissioner stuff again--this was posted at 7:03 PM. The start time of the Atlanta game was 7:00 PM. This makes the substitution of Billings invalid.

Crystal Langhorne remains in the toad455 lineup, and the points she earned count instead of Billings's. Unfortunately toad loses several points because of this.

Glad to see that the Billings/Langhorne thing didn't decide a game.

There's a rule for the playoffs that I think needs examining:

Quote:
During the playoffs, no transactions are allowed, unless a team has a player who is cut or goes on the WNBA disabled list leaving the team with no legal starting lineup. In that instance, the cut or injured player can be dropped for a substitute.

There isn't actually a disabled list in the WNBA for teams to use, is there? I can't find any evidence of one. When I wrote the rules, I assumed there was such a thing. Given that, the rule above is almost completely meaningless, applying only to cut players.

The closest thing I could find to a list of injuries was on the USA Today site:

https://www.usatoday.com/sports/wnba/injuries/

Before I say anything more, I should mention that what we're discussing affects my team slightly. Natalie Achonwa is the only healthy center on my team. Azura Stevens is also on my roster, but she is out indefinitely, according to the above list.

Taken literally, the rule won't do what it was intended to do; that is, give some relief to a team that has a bad run of injuries. The intent of the rule is clear; the way it was worded means that it never applies.

If we want the rule to do as it was intended, we could use the USA Today list as our "disabled list." In fact, I think we should vote on whether to do that or not. Before anyone goes nuts over this decision because of my own position, I am voting against this.

My own situation made me aware of ways it can be abused. Stevens's injury complicates things, so assume my backup center is Courtney Paris instead. Paris is a mediocre option, but the other options on waivers are mediocre as well. So if we are using the USA Today injury list, the best thing for me to do on the last day of the season would be to drop Paris and pick up a replacement at another position.

If Achonwa gets hurt and ends up on the list, instead of having to use Paris, I can choose from all of the available centers on the waiver wire (probably including Paris). If Han Xu suddenly emerges on the Liberty and becomes a viable fantasy option a few weeks into our post-season, I'll be rewarded for cutting a player and adding another player at another position. It's almost like getting a free roster spot.

That's why I'm voting against it. However, I can see how people might like the original intent of the rule and how it protects teams from disaster, and might want to use the USA Today list. The abuse I am mentioning above is really only a maneuver to slightly improve the consequences if disaster strikes. It might not be worth throwing the whole thing out to prevent this.

For me, if we use the USA Today list, I will stay pat with my team, knowing that if Achonwa gets hurt, I can pick up a scrub. If not, on the last day of the season I will probably cut someone for a backup center...

...which brings up another rules issue. The last day for add/drop is the last day of the season. So does that mean that anyone dropped on the last day cannot be picked up by anyone else? That really wasn't the intent. Shouldn't you all get the chance to pick up the player I cut for that backup center?

I suggest that we allow the waiver wire process to play out normally for players dropped, even though that will extend into the first day of the post-season (I guess it could conceivably go another day or two if it telescopes). Is that OK?

So let me know what you think about using the USA Today list as our disabled list, and let me know if it's OK that waiver wire claims can be resolved normally for players dropped on the last day.

Proofreading all this, it occurs to me that it might have been a better idea to simply allow add/drops in the post-season.
