The 1977 blackout in NYC occurred on this same date.

Thank GOD there weren't any reported injuries and J. Lo had her concert cancelled.

forget the 1977 blackout. it was the northeast blackout of 2003 that changed my life, after walking in sandals in the dark from times square to the hudson river, then standing for hours to catch a ferry home to new jersey. jacked up my feet something terrible, and they've never recovered. it was the world's second most widespread blackout in history, according to wikipedia.

In the spirit of NYC blackout favorites, mine was the Great Northeast Blackout on November 9, 1965, which hit eight states and part of Canada. I was in Manhattan at Columbia University and we spent much of the time in the candlelit dining hall or dorms.
