There was no Stars & Stripes in 1775. The Betsy Ross flag first appeared in 1777.

A 45 minute non-political speech, honoring America, it's history and it's military -- and you pick up on the misreading of one word or a teleprompter error?
In the speech, the president segued and transitioned through many episodes in American military history. His brief recounting of the Revolutionary War ended with the paragraph about Washington defeating Cornwallis at Yorktown, because this was the last major land battle of that war and effectively ended it.
In the next paragraph the president has obviously transitioned to the War of 1812, using references to that war and the words from our national anthem, such as "air", "ramparts", "Fort McHenry", and the "star-spangled banner". It's plain as day to anyone paying attention to the flow of the speech. In the very next few sentences the president sequed quickly through highlights from the Civil War, WWI and WWII.
As to the word "airports", the president either misread the word on the teleprompter or he read correctly an incorrect or misspelled word. Big deal. Can the kneejerk TDS haters be more picayune and petty?
It was a good and patriotic speech. |

Not possibly more picayune nor petty than Donald himself. For someone like him, who utters--AND DOUBLES DOWN ON--Mega Lies (Obama's birther claims, for starters), he will never have the respect of Good and Honest people possessed of more than 7 brain cells. Feel free to blindly support one of the most illicit con men of the century, and consequently, endure the chafing at every well-earned criticism of the Asshole in Chief.

That's either a mistranslation or he misspoke for the first time at that point, where you can see he hesitates. The line was obviously meant to be "man the ramparts", immediately followed by what sounded like "airports". There was obviously some goof in the reading or teleprompter spelling of that one sentence fragment.
It baffles me why this triviality is relevant to anything. Every speaker, writer, scribe, translator, printer and computer programmer in history has made mistakes. How about you acknowledge your flagrantly ludicrous misreading of a reference to the War of 1812 as a reference to the Revolutionary War? Man up your own ramparts. |
