Has Washington sold out any games this year?

And I wonder how many of the 2,500 tickets they are down from last year were freebies, heavily discounted or imaginary.

And finally, I wonder how the fan experience compares.

Two so far, which is 4,200.

Probably most of them were imaginary. Mystics typically looked like they only had 3-4,000 the past few seasons.[/quote]

toad455, a few quick questions (if you do not mind).

--- When you state that attendance is "down 983 as compared to last year," are you (or the site linked above) using the same time frame -- e.g., same number of games played for each team or as of the same date, one year earlier?

--- Or is the 983 figure in reference to the 2018 overall attendance -- and the numbers for each team are based on the 2018 final totals?

Again, toad455, thank you for gathering/compiling the data and posting it so we have reference points. Really appreciate your work on this.

The +/- is from the final totals/averages from 2018.

So the WNBA is averaging 983 fewer fans overall from 2018.

But I posted the comparable (as in time of year) numbers from 2017 and 2018 above, which toad455 had prepared in those respective years.

Washington is now playing in the St. Elizabeths East Entertainment and Sports Arena, which houses 4,200. In previous years, the team played in the much larger Verizon Center.

Washington at -2,543 does not yet concern me, as the Mystics averaged approximately 6,136 in a much, much larger venue. Also, this is an arena that houses the WNBA, the G League, and practice facility for the Washington Wizards (in other words, all entities owned by Monumental Sports & Entertainment).

Right now, Washington is averaging 3,593, which is approximately 85.55 percent of capacity. The goal for Washington is to get to at least 4,000-4,200 for every game. But for a smaller venue like Washington, the actual number does not necessarily mean a lot as compared to last year -- and what it does mean has to have an asterisk.

League down just 503 compared to last year. A bit troubling to see Vegas' dip considering they're one of the favorites to win. Impressed with Chicago's bump & Seattle holding strong despite not being at Key Arena.

+/- compared to last season's final averages.

1. Los Angeles: +645
2. Phoenix: +563
3. Chicago: +402
4. Dallas: +267
5. Connecticut: -81
6. Atlanta: -312
7. Seattle: -613
8. Indiana: -793
9. New York: -858
10. Washington: -918
11. Las Vegas: -914
12. Minnesota: -1,570

There are reasons why we are down this amount, but the attendance numbers this year are reality and our benchmark for future years.
Our fan base has been established, and now our task is to grow.
FYI, our redemption rate of tickets is 75%+, up from high 40s last year. That was one of our goals.
The most important factor is our fan base loves the atmosphere and our players love the fan support we have.
In addition, we are one of the highest $ grossing teams per game. We have a large waiting list for premium inventory.

Washington's attendance has definitely increased, as noted by the information toad455 has posted in this thread.

The game against the Phoenix Mercury on July 10 was held at the Capital One Arena, which had an announced crowd of 15377.

The other seven home games (to date) were played at the Entertainment and Sports Arena, with a total attendance of 26365 and an average of 3766.43 -- which is 89.68 percent of capacity.

Obviously I haven't been there -- but I have to believe the atmosphere is a lot better when you're playing in front of a nearly full house, instead of to thousands of empty seats.

Have they been calling the St. Elizabeth's East Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington the SEEESAW, for short?

The Wings games seem a lot more full this year as compared to last year. I have been to only one game without the upper sections open as compared to almost none of the games last year having people in the 200s. This is despite a much worse season. The fans keep coming out and loudly supporting the Wings. The fans here are hungry for the Wings. Hopefully, soon the players will want to come to the DFW instead of fleeing it.

And hopefully they get bigger crowds next season with the return of Diggins, the addition of Jefferson and two first round picks.

What is "redemption rate", the percentage of free tickets distributed that are utilized?

We do not give away tickets this year. That is one factor in our attendance drop. 165 per game.
Redemption of sold tickets,

toad455,

The Wings have the best fans in the WNBA without question😜😜😜

Have you heard anything about Moriah's status?

I'm starting to wonder if there are some issues they are
keeping hush, hush about...her Twitter & Instagram still show Vegas Aces 🤔🤔🤔

I'm thinking at this point Jefferson will sit out the entire season. Very pleased with the Wings attendance considering Diggins is out and they're at the bottom of the standings.

toad455,

What's your opinion of Greg Bibb and the results he's produced or lack thereof since 2016?

My opinion is not a favorable one, however, I'm always interested in someone else's point of view.

I think we wait to judge until next season. Not having a PG on the team is hurting them. Let's see what 2020 looks like for Dallas with Diggins, Jefferson and two first round picks added.

toad455,

Where do you rank him among the 12 GM's based on the decisions he's made since 2016:

1. Hired Fred Williams as a head coach
2. Drafted Aerial Powers vs Courtney Williams
3. Drafted Evelyn Akator with the 1st round pick
4. Gave Fred Williams an extension instead of firing him.
5. Passed on Mercedes Russell in the draft.
6. Traded Aerial Powers for Tayler Hill and her contract.
7. Signed Terressa P for $105k
8. Only invited 2 people to camp
9. Cut Kennedy Burke, brought back Meagan G simply due to the backlash he received from people in another state who have no barring on the Wings organization whatsoever outside of Iowa!!!
10. Didn't go after a single position player in free agency that could have helped this team improve in some fashion: Mercedes Russell, Riquina Williams, Erica Wheeler, Cappie Poindexter, Alana Beard, and the list goes on...hell Alaina Coates was there for the taking but within 24hrs a real GM snatched her up...You honestly would rather have Meagan over Coates? She has zero agility, can barely jump 2 inches off the ground, no defensive assets, and gets pushed around to the point of embarrassment!!!
11. Let's not even go there with the Liz Cambage situation!!!

So tell me, is it just me???
