That Marianne person is cray. Not everything she says is crazy, but the way she says it.. |
Hardly anything she says is crazy. It can’t be easily in explained in the few seconds she gets, though.

She has no organization of thoughts. It sounds cray.

Joe doesn't look physically good. Maybe it's just age. He seems to be slurring his words and is a step slower than he used to be. |

She’s not good at fitting answers into 30-60 seconds

Gillibrand manages to not sound nuts, and she’s cut off every time she speaks.

The mods were much worse about playing favorites tonight. Yang didn't get a single question other than the down-the-line things in the last hour of the debate.
I love Marianne Williamson. She'd be an awful president, but she's very entertaining.

IMO, the bloom is off the Sanders rose. He's lost his mojo. His "rage against the corporate machine" generalities sound like tired broken record.
If I were forced to vote for one of these people it would be Hickenlooper. He's uncharismatic, but the substance of a lot of things he said make common and business and anti-socialism sense to me. Plus he has very respectable scientific, business and gubernatorial experience. However, he won't be the candidate.
I said in February that I thought Kamala Harris was the strongest contender at that time, and I'll stick with that opinion for the time being. |

Yang with a big lead (29%) in the early Drudge poll. I have three theories why:
- He didn't wear a tie and that seems to be trending big.
- He promised to give every person in the country a "dividend" of . . . what? . . . $1000 a month.
- He was given no time to speak, so therefore he couldn't make a pandering, self-contradictory fool of himself. |

It's a Universal Basic Income. It's an interesting theory, but there's never been a large scale application of it.

I’d take Booker or Castro as Harris’ VP too.
Also could be really fun to see Pete debate Pence..He’s too green to be President, but might make a good VP candidate.

I think parts of Canada tried it, with pretty good success.

Swalwell and Harris won the night by taking shots at Biden and Sanders. Buttigieg did OK but came across as provincial when he tried to bring everything back to Indiana and South Bend. Yang was very sharp on the few occasions he was allowed to speak.

Winners on Closing Comments: Buttigieg and Sanders.
I really like ALL of their main ideas, much like last night. To me, Joe did himself a disservice by what he undoubtedly thought should be a forte: "I've Been There, Done That...." citing his legislative history. Joe? If ya did it (or thought you did it) obviously it didn't fix much (gun control, immigration, etc.)
Pete is a personal favorite of mine, on many levels: His intellect, combined with military service, and perspective on life through the lens of a minority citizen = a man with the Right Stuff to be leader of the free world. I think he's just too *green* yet, but has a bright future.
Bernie's (and Kristen's) Corporate Evil Mantra can NEVER be overstated: I hope to god the next generation hearkens unto these voices and carries their torches forward.
The Brightest Hope for me is that ANY of them, any one of them, is infinitely more qualified than the dolt we now have in office. And time shall bear this out.

Harris is getting a lot of love after that debate. I was all for Biden months ago, but he doesn't have it. He should have ran four years ago. I'm all for a Warren/Harris, Harris/Warren or Harris/Buttigieg ticket.

i just don't know which of these candidates people inclined to vote for a democrat, or against trump, would be willing to vote for. so much is unknown, and not because it's so early. we're still in that "anyone but trump" mode, but i can't get a handle on how far left the majority will lean. i think people will be voting more out of fear than confidence (in any particular candidate). that's why i have doubts that kamala or pete or corey or bernie (still) will convince the masses they can win and lead. and despite the angst over trump, i'm afraid the marjority of voters still aren't willing to bet on someone who seems too fringe. ironically, elizabeth is looking more in a sweet spot. i just hope they have an exit strategy, so to speak, so when the best candidate emerges everyone falls in line. we truly are getting a look at the next white house administration/cabinet, if a democrat wins. it could be win-win for nearly all of them, if they don't fuck it up.

Sanders had a terrible closing statement. When you've been in congress for decades, asking why nothing's gotten done during that time is not what you want. |
Perfectly legitimate question, imo. Now, IFFF he'd been president, and couldn't point to a positive record, then shame on him. Sanders is pointing to the extreme dysfunction of his institution (Congress) as a problem that desperately needs attention, a problem that ONE congressman cannot possibly override, given the corporate lobbyist hold over congressional 'decisions'.
I found that perspective far more appealing that Biden's "Yeah, I've been 'fixing' things since the 80s". No, you haven't, Joe.

I thought the same thing, Sambista: there's a BOATLOAD of uber-qualified people on that stage that, as a team, could make huge inroads for reform.

A black woman and a gay man??
I agree it would be nice, but I doubt that it has a snowball's chance of happening. Same with an all female ticket. It would be nice to see, but I don't know if it would have a chance at beating trump.

Nate Silver:
BIG upward movement for Harris (8% -> 17%) and downward movement for Biden (42% -> 32%) in our polling with
@MorningConsult after the debates.
