Some men's changes this year that I'd guess are going to be in the women's game soon.
Three point line moved back and shot clock changed to 20 seconds on an offensive rebound. This one will be hard to get used to.

The shot clock reset I am all for ...
Not as convinced about the three-point line. Strength is a significant component of long-distance shooting (leg strength) and women are not as strong as men. My fear is that three-point shooting percentages would decline if the line is moved back, thus clogging the middle, creating more contact, etc.
But I do like the idea of standardizing the rules. It would be great if there were one basketball rule book world-wide, with adjustments for age and strength of players for the three-point line.

| The powers that be want the rules to be the same for the men and the women but don't want the women to make more money. Don't expect them to do more without paying more.

Darn right. And while we're at it, bring back Doris Day, Emily Post and Bishop Fulton J. Sheen.
I'd also favor eliminating the three-point line altogether, so that basketball would be more forced to re-learn the elegant teamwork required to get the shooter as close to the basket as possible for the highest percentage shot possible. However, since eliminating the arc of evil is fantasy, I don't think I favor moving the three-point line further away for women, who don't have the excitement factor of the above-the-rim aerobatics of men's basketball.
The three-point line should be at a distance where the average probability of points produced by a three-point shot significantly exceeds the average probability of points produced by two-point shots. I'm not sure exactly what distance that is or what those percentages are, but if three-point shots begin to average less than about 33%, I'm not sure they're "worth it" from either a statistical or an excitement factor point of view. The line should be set at 20 feet. |

The jump ball might happen someday. The shot clock is here to stay.
