It's tough to rank him because he plays in All Time weak era. 85% of the slams the last 15 years have been won by just three guys.

Or is it playing in an area with multiple all-time legends?

Frankly, the bigger issue with Nadal is 12 of his 18 GS titles have come at the French Open. He is the greatest clay court player of all-time, no doubt. But overall?

I knew how you felt. Laughing You really think the era is weak watching them (Federer, Nadal and Djokovic) play or maybe they're just that great?

I do think it's somewhere in the middle, even though I have been reading that this is the golden era of men's tennis.

Which era do you define as the strongest in men's tennis?

1960's (Led by Laver and Emerson)
1970's (Led by Rosewall, Newcombe, Connors, Borg and Vilas)
1980's (Led by McEnroe, Connors and Lendl)
1990's (Led by Sampras, Courier and Agassi)

It feels weird to not mention the 1980s (and 1990s) and not include Stefan Edberg, Mats Wilander, and Boris Becker.

Ranking Top Tens EVER is always tempered by a big dose of hypotheticals, such as: How might Federer have fared against Rod Laver, if both were playing each other in their primes? Borg? Etc. And always, their records are a product of the context of their current peers; my personal opinion is that Federer might, at the very least, make the Top Five Ever.

Longevity/duration of career is another factor. For anyone to be a Top Tier player over a decade is amazing.

The late 70's and 80's were when I started watching, so I'm partial to that era.

It would be interesting to see how the big three would adjust to the old wood and early graphite rackets that didn't have the oversized sweet spots and the less homogeneous playing surfaces from the good old days.

Over the past year, I have went from a Nadal fan to someone who doesn't like him too much.

I'll just say that he's a passive-aggressive ASSHOLE and leave it at that.

I don't appreciate Daniil throwing that towel at the ball person in the earlier round. That elevated my blood pressure but he really had me rooting for him yesterday. He showed he's got some umph.

Have no idea who's the GOAT since the high-tech racket introduction in the post-1968 Open Era, but Nadal surely has to be considered.

In the mid-50's, when I began watching, Pancho Gonzales and Lew Hoad were the big names, with Pancho being the more charismatic. He's thus been imprinted on my mind as my FOAT.

People ask me where I think Roger Federer would fit in with that mix of bombers. Forget about it: as hard as it had always been to compare players of different time periods within the wood-racket era, the fact that tennis with modern rackets is a completely different sport makes it impossible to compare players across the technology gap. All I can tell you is that if you gave Federer a wooden racket and told him to go out and beat Gonzales at his best, my money would be on Gonzales, though conversely if you gave the mid-1950s Gonzales a high-tech racket and told him to beat Federer today, my money would have to stay in my pocket for that one. Gonzales was a fulminating maniac on a tennis court, and it’s hard to see him losing to anyone when he was at the top of his powers, but if Gonzales had to face a shark like Federer while using a strange racket, you’d have to be mad as a hatter to count Federer’s chances out completely.
