I believe Smith will be forced to play Han when Zahui B leaves(probably next week). Why Smith doesn't play her against bigger line-ups frustrates me. Defensively she'll change the game inside.

One more personnel decision by Katie Smith that leaves me shaking my head. In my view, Han should play at least 15 minutes per game all season. I don't care who's on the floor from opposing teams. Don't we want Han to learn how to do better against stronger post players?
I view this year's team as a lottery team no matter what the distribution of minutes. For me, what's most crucial isn't that we finish 14-20 or 12-22 as opposed to 7-27. It's that Durr, Han, and Nurse go forward in their development. I can see a case for limiting Han's minutes, especially in the first half of the season. But she's got to be on the floor every night for enough time to begin to get comfortable with WNBA regular-season play.

I’m not as sold on Han playing too many minutes just yet. First off, I’m not sure playing her when she’s not ready to play helps her development. It might actually hurt it. Secondly, Zahui and Gray are developing as young players also. It’s to me a little different from last year where Vaughn was clearly on the way out. I think Zahui might actually be ready to break out soon. Her offense was always decent. Her defense was always the problem. If her D remains consistent, I think we want to develop her as much as possible since she has some other talents.
Also, with all due respect to anyone’s opinion, Han is nowhere near ready for WNBA defense. Not even close. I don’t see her at the stage where these types of learning experiences are going to enhance her development. I could be wrong and honestly I hope I am because she’s going to have to play soon enough...ready or not. Unless Warley returns. I think she probably will.
It’s annoying because we should be 2-1. And we could have put ourselves in a position to be 4-6 or 5-5 coming out of Eurobasket instead of 2-8, 1-9 or 0-10. If we finished games 1 and 3 properly we aren’t probably even talking about Han’s minutes.

Yes we are a Lottery team !
Lets develop our young players this year
Why replace Katie and pay off her contract?
There is no need to and take the off season to see what coach
options are out there ....its not like we
are going to be a playoff team if we replace our coach mid season .
So Katie your job is safe BUT lets win a few more games then last year !

And let’s face an obvious fact. An 0-8 start is a distinct possibility. That would mean 21 consecutive losses. If that’s the case part of any organization’s due diligence would be to evaluate other potential immediate coaching options. But I agree in that there’s no major rush to make any change. Any urgency for 2019 is about gone. And you’re gonna reevaluate at the end of the year anyway.
But I do hope there’s evaluation happening at the GM level that will involve the exploration of a different direction if this continues.

Re read my prior post |
I read your prior post earlier. To be courteous, I have now reread it. I don't agree with you.
I've said--and I'll say again--that in my view Katie Smith may or may not last through the season. But if it's SO clear that she won't be fired, as you insist, then what are you going to say to the rest of us if you happen to be proven wrong? |
Maybe the same thing you will say ...I guess i WAS WRONG !

If we continue to struggle I bet there will be some pressure both from a development and marketing standpoint to get Han more minutes.

I agree. You can't continually promote a player and then have her glued to the bench. I've seen a couple of quotes from Joe Tsai where he said Jonathan Kolb started following Han while he was with the league office. It sounds like Xu was Kolb's pick. So, you would think he's very vested in her success. At the very least, the team needs to have a plan. It can't just be let Han sit until Katie Smith decides on a whim to use her.

Well, this month mostly: Zahui B, Hartley, Stokes & Johannes. All should be back by mid-July.

So for whatever weeks all four of them are gone that appears to leave us with
Nurse and Allen at SF
Charles, Gray, Han, and Raincock-Ekunwe at the post positions
Boyd, Durr, and Bias in the backcourt
Nine players. So we'll see some stopgap signings soon?

I sometimes wonder if Euro Basket schedules their games so late to disrupt the WNBA or is that just me being paranoid ?

Posted: 06/07/19 2:16 pm ::: Question re: seating at WCC |
Reply |

Thinking of taking the kid (now 6) to the game on Sunday, but don't want to spend a small fortune since she has the attention span of a gnat and there's likely not enough to keep her engaged (like there is at MSG). When we took her to her first game a couple of years ago, she was still easy enough to bribe -- a tub of popcorn and a stuffed Maddie and she sat there like an angel. But now, she's turned into hellspawn with little patience for anything not her idea.
There are tix for around $22 in the upper level. How's the view? Should I spring for seats on the lower level? I don't think I've ever been to the WCC -- maybe once, years ago for a concert, but I have zero recollection what the layout is like.
TIA.

wow this is a name of a poster from the past ...
Yes take her ...she might like the train ride more than the game,
close to the railing upper Deck is fine
I used to take my daughter to games years ago at MSG... she
was married in April...how the years pass so fast.
Lets hope you will be taking her to Barclays Center to watch the Liberty next year...
BTW I think I met you at Cafe 31 years ago at a viewing party
playoff game against The Shock

you know even though i wasn't such a big fan of Laimbeer as a coach, the man gets it as a GM. he is always monitoring and in guage of what's going on in the W, even as a fan you can tell checks to see what the fanbase is saying. as an aggressive GM i will always respect that from Bill Laimbeer aka LFO lol

Blast from the past. Yes, we did meet years ago at Cafe31 (I want to say you used to wear a Brooklyn Dodgers cap?). Those were the good ol' days! Hope all is well -- nice to see some familiar names are still here. I lurk every so often to see what I'm missing and try to catch up with all that's been going on. My wife has never been much of a bball fan, so we stopped going to games once the kid was born and life got in the way. Now that the kid is older, I'd love to indoctrinate her so I have a buddy to go to games with again.
Thanks for the info about WCC. We'd probably drive up, rather than take the train. I assume they have a parking lot, right?
