Yikes. Front line will be very thin indeed. Could be a good thing as Chiney will have to shake off the rust very quickly and Brown will get extended minutes. |

People forget that the only reason she went so low in the draft was because teams did not know if she would come an play in the WNBA. She was always very talented, but Agler just did not give her enough minutes to get in the groove last season. You could never the less still see a glimmer of her talent on display. I was really ticked off that Agler stuck with Lavender instead of Vadeeva. Although when he gave Vadeeva playing time Lavender did up her effort. Lavender does have talent she just is lazy she usually only puts out minimal effort, probably because she has a guaranteed contract. There are players like that through out sports. Once they get a guarateed contract they don't give effort anymore.

Vadeeva left already? No Vadeeva or Parker makes the Sparks very thin inside.

A) play Nneka's health into the ground again
B) play Chiney's health into the ground too
C) and Parker's health when she gets back
D) Brown gets 25 to 30 minutes
E) Who you gonna call? Gust -Afson. I ain't afraid of no Gust. Hear she kinda likes to score.

The Los Angeles Sparks have signed forward Ashley Walker after the team was granted an emergency hardship salary cap exception, Executive Vice President and General Manager Penny Toler announced today. |

Who's the emergency exception ?

Parker and Beard? If it only takes two, seems like a lot of teams could be doing this “emergency hardship salary cap exception”.
MIN: Augustus & Christmas
PHX: Taurasi & Little
SEA: Bird & Stewart (but they’re already getting enough privileges)
WAS: Leslie & Powers

Are both out for a substantial amount of time ? Would hate for walker to make it just to be cut once they return really soon .

They're also without Vadeeva, which dropped them down to 9. Happy for Walker considering how well she played during preseason.

Then couldn't they sign her to a regular contract, not the emergency hardship? I think with emergency hardship they must waive her as soon as one of the three out are available again.

Who says? Not that it matters in this case.

Why would she come and play one game and then not return?

Emergency Hardship is the one where a team falls below ten available players. This is salary cap relief, not roster spot relief. Otherwise, assuming Vadeeva is suspended, they could just reuse her roster spot. I'm guessing LA expects this to be fairly short-term.

Well technically if she's planning on a reasonably long WNBA career there'd be some value to her in an extra year of 'WNBA experience' (gets you to free agency quicker and things like that). But it would be weird. Unless Kailapea has heard something somewhere, I'd assume she's intending to return after EuroBasket Women. |

Very excited for Ashley to get on a team, even if it may be temporary.

I believe Parker & Beard now have to be out X amount of days or X amount of games now. Basically, Parker can't say she's ready on Friday if she suddenly feels good.

A million years ago it used to be that the first player had to have missed two games and be expected to miss (at least) eight more, and the second player had to have missed one game and be expected to miss (at least) four more. Not sure if that's still the thresholds (or if they're allowed to count Vadeeva as one of the missing, given that she's out by her own volition, rather than through injury).
But it's always been 'expected' to miss, not required. If someone heals faster than expected they're allowed to come back. |

They sure missed a bunch of stuff. Mitchell was waived. Bone was waived, but they probably call it something else. Gustafson was waived. Burke was waived and picked up.

That's the 4th-year of a rookie scale contract, which is a team option that has to be exercised. May 31st of the third season is literally the last day on which you can take up that option - LA apparently took their time deciding to bother. |
