The Las Vegas Aces were picked to win the WNBA championship and the Washington Mystics’ Elena Delle Donne was selected as the favorite for the WNBA Most Valuable Player Award, according to the 2019 WNBA.com GM Survey. In the 17th annual poll, the WNBA’s 12 general managers assessed the league’s best teams, players, coaches, offseason moves and more.

Time will tell, but I think Vegas is still a bit too young and needs time to gel. Maybe for 2020 if Cambage comes back.

The GMs are very bad at picking champions

In 2018 nobody picked the Storm to win the title
In 2017 42% picked the Lynx
In 2016 only 8.3% (one GM) picked the Sparks
In 2015 67% picked the Lynx
In 2014 only 8.3% (one GM) picked the Mercury
In 2013 only 8.3% (one GM) picked the Lynx
In 2012 nobody picked the Fever to win the title
In 2011 only 8.3% (one GM) picked the Lynx
In 2010 nobody picked the Storm to win the title
In 2009 only 8.3% (one GM) picked the Mercury
In 2008 nobody picked the Shock to win the title
In 2007 only 9.1% (one GM) picked the Mercury to win the title
In 2006 18.2% (two GMs) picked the Shock, tying them for first with Connecticut, Houston, Sacramento, and Seattle
In 2005 nobody picked the Monarchs to win the title
In 2004 nobody picked the Storm to win the title
In 2003 nobody picked the Shock to win the title

Lest we forget that Trader Bill did it in 2003 with a young team that turned out to be a mini-dynasty.

Looks like they’ve been better lately.

Looking at that list, I suspect Rebkell isn't much better. Razz

Excerpt:
The New York Liberty’s Asia Durr and the Dallas Wings’ Arike Ogunbowale shared the top spot for WNBA Rookie of the Year (25 percent each), ahead of Phoenix’s Alanna Smith and Las Vegas’ Young (17 percent each). Smith received 25 percent as the “sleeper” rookie most likely to have success, edging teammate Brianna Turner (17 percent).

Perhaps this means Turner is now going to make the roster, with the trade of Talbot (and some future financial finagling).

Some fun stuff in this one. The top 2 small forwards in the league are actually power forwards. The GMs aren't too high on Cambage, voting both Griner and Fowles ahead of her as the best center. Griner is apparently also the 2nd best rebounder Laughing Laughing Laughing
