Quote:
Reeve was impressed by Dillard’s personality and her willingness to learn, but also said that Dillard struggled to take in a completely new system in such a short time — a struggle that, she explained, is common for newcomers to the WNBA.

“I’ve thrown a lot at the rookies,” Reeve said. “Sometimes you can see (Cierra) is confident and ready to go, other times I have her head spinning. But she knows I want that, and I’m trying to challenge her take on a lot.”

Most of the new players were there a week early and already bonding with each other, while Dillard arrived the latest she possibly could. That probably didn’t help her situation.

Fagbenle has showed up to camp. That explains why the Lynx needed to cut a player at this time. They could have mentioned Fagbenle was coming in as an explanation. But it’s hard to believe Emery had more merit to stay then Dillard.

I'm guessing Bell had some pretty obvious 'insider' help to beat out Dillard.

There must be a curse that whatever player from the draft Shades wants/is happy with the Lynx acquiring gets cut as soon as possible. Evil or Very Mad

Lynx go up against China tomorrow night. Another run before heading off to Vegas.

I'm sorry if this has been answered but I just noticed something and I don't have the time to look.

Did Brunson retire and I missed it? The .com has her listed but she's not on the Training Camp roster, nor did she appear in the box score for the preseason game. Up until this moment I thought she was back. Any info?

Technically she's an unrestricted free agent at the moment, and can sign anywhere she likes. But last we heard she was still suffering concussion symptoms. There's been no official retirement, but at the moment it doesn't look like she's going to play.

She is battling a bad conky from last year.

No offical retirement or anything, as I think she still hopes to overcome it, but the longer it drags on, and due to the point she is at in her career, the more that becomes a real possibility.

She is not listed on the roster because she is officially a UFA, but she is not looking to sign elsewhere. If/When she can play she would sign with the Lynx and join the team.

Reeve is probably happy with the way the roster shaped up and would probably like to see how it goes without Brunson.

If the frontline disappoints in the first half of the season I could see maybe considering bringing back Brunson if she’s ready, but I would resist that temptation if it means a promising player (Shepard, Zandalisini) has to get cut.

But then Reeve will get paranoid about Brunson joining a team like Chicago or worse yet PHX to help them to a championship. Might have to retire Brunson quick and find her an office job. Surprised

Cut down time. Glen Taylors annual spaghetti dinner has got to be tomorrow or Wed so likely to find out cuts any moment Laughing
Based on what I saw in preseason (which means little not seeing practices) In spike of Larkins looking in really good shape, I like Alleyne over Larkins experience, she's younger & moved better, I liked her energy.

PG: Robinson/Brown
SG: Augustus/Sims/(Bell)
SF: Christmas/Collier/Ting
PF: Dantas//Shepard
C: Fowles/Dantas/(Alleyne)

Hope we have space to carry 12; Fagbenle gets suspended till she comes back. Zandalasini supposed to be due in July; if so Bell & Alleyne get waived.
KCK is nowhere near 100% so I really like the bench depth as its all the young legs so Lynx will have different looks for sure. Excited about this team. Things were odd & stale last yr w/Whalen & Moore checking out, all the new young faces are refreshing. Growing pains to be expected but the team seems to have really good chemistry and more energy; just need to get use to each other and develop roles and who knows.

Go Lynx

Given that they'll have to carry Fagbenle's salary number while temporarily suspended, I'm not convinced it's as simple as one cut. If it's Larkins then yes, it's simple because that drops 80k and you can keep the other 12. But one cheap salary, assuming you're keeping Fagbenle's number on the books, isn't enough to get under the cap. So it's probably either Larkins or two from the Bell/Alleyne/Ting group and roll with 11 for a while.

Bye bye Fagbenle? Or maybe she’s being moved to PF.

Robinson/Brown
Augustus/Sims/(Ting vs Bell)
Christmas/Collier
Dantas/Fagbenle/Shepard
Fowles/Coates

When and if Zandalisini arrives, winner of Ting vs Bell goes home.
They probably don’t need a placeholder for Fagbenle since Collier or Chistmas can do emergency duty.

You missed this part.
Quote:
In corresponding moves, the Lynx have waived forward Jillian Alleyne and guard Kenisha Bell.

This is surprising if they use her as a forward. What am I missing?

Now I’m thinking Christmas isn’t in good shape, but they’re stuck with her in Reeve’s over-enthusiasm to sign her with a guaranteed contract. They might bury her in that third SG spot and start Talbot, not ready to trust Ting or Collier as starters.

Robinson/Brown
Augustus/Sims/Christmas
Talbot/Collier
Dantas/Fagbenle/Shepard
Fowles/Coates

These late training camp trades of players for 2nd or 3rd round draft picks seem like a way for a team to move up the waiver wire order. That is, the player was probably going to be waived.

That's precisely what they are. Before you just cut someone you call around and see if you can get something for them. The second/third round pick itself isn't likely to be worth much if they just use it to select someone, but they can be useful for other trades later on.
