Tara (65) is nine months older than Geno (64) and has nine more career wins, 1036 vs. 1027. They both seem destined to break Pat Summitt's record of 1098 within the next two or three seasons, but who will end up with the most career wins as between them?

If they both coach 10 more seasons, Geno would have to average one more win than Tara per season to pull ahead. If they both coach five seasons, Geno will have to average two more wins. Geno certainly has an advantage by playing in a much weaker conference, but he may on average play a tougher out-of-conference schedule.

Tara probably would have been uncatchable had she not taken a sabbatical in 1995-96 to train and coach the Olympic team, a season in which Stanford went 29-3 with Amy Tucker and Marianne Stanley at the helm.

It will likely depend on whoever retires sooner. I'm guessing Tara will.

I agree. I doubt that Tara will coach more than 5 years, maybe less I suspect Geno will coach at least long enough to set the record, no matter who he has to pass

If my math is correct, that is also the reason why she's tied with Auriemma for most NCAA Tournament bids. If she hadn't taken the sabbatical, she'd have a one season advantage over him.

Geno gained four wins on Tara in 2018-19, leaving Tara ahead by five, 1067-1062. They both have a chance of reaching Summitt's 1098 this upcoming season, but Geno may have his least dominant team since 2006.

And Tara's best career teams may be in front of her with the caliber of recruits they've brought in. Very Happy

I often wonder how things would be different had Tara not spent the 1995-96 season with the US National Team. Likely *at least* have those 29 wins...she seemed quite fatigued the next year, and fans in my section thought that her leave hurt recruiting.

That means that Geno can't catch Pat this season. Even if UConn were to win their final regular season came and sweep the AAC and NCAA tournaments he would only get 10. Tara could tie Pat with a win tomorrow, a run to the Pac 12 final and the Final Four. If she can do better she could get to #1 this season.
