I wonder if Schaefer learned anything from watching that game on video. If not, it could be the same disastrous result for MSU. Check out what Schaefer instructed McCowan to do EVERY TIME Hebard would draw McCowan out to the three point line.

You see she leaves Hebard to lunge at the guard which I guess is supposed to impede the lead guard in some way but the real result is she’s screening off her own very good defensive teammate in Danberry from doing her job.

Now Hebard raises her hand because she’s left wide open (again) in the cleared out paint, and McCowan has to use extra energy to chase down Hebard. And she’s still screening off her own man at this point.

McCowan tried to get back into the play but it’s too late. Bibby tries to help, but she’s a little too little a little too late going up against a high percentage forward like Hebard.

Here you see the result. Schaefer stands there like, aw shucks, why didn’t that work? And the crazy part is Schaefer never adjusted, so Graves kept going to it and it kept on working for the most part. Schaefer relies on McCowan to play 40 min in a tight matchup, and yet he thought it was a good idea to have McCowan do all this lunging and chasing all game long? Schaefer’s only adjustment was to bench McCowan for the last 5 min of the game. Like this abysmal defensive scheme was her fault? Like her backup would fair any better doing the same exact thing? Schaefer is one of the better defensive coaches, but his stubbornness and lack of adjustments loss them that game.

I'm thinking Mississippi State has the edge even though Oregon is at home, unless the Ducks have a good 3-point percentage.

What is it with the lost shoes?

It seems like there have been a lot of them this weekend.

They lead the country in 3-pt% at 42%.

Oregon back to shooting like we're used to seeing.

If the refs don't allow the armbar on McCowan, there is zero way to guard her. Miss St should be tossing it in there every time down. If she were just a bit more mobile the lob/alley oop should work.

What does this game have in common with the first game of the day?

An unfair crowd advantage for the lower seed.

This game ain't over. Wait til the game is over before looking for excuses. I don't think Louisville was claiming the reason they lost was because of the crowd. If Miss St doesn't win, I doubt they will claim the reason was the crowd.

I usually don't complain about the reffing, but how was that not an over the back call on Hebard, but instead they give it to Carter who was just boxing out.... giving Oregon a 5-0 foul advantage in the quarter.

This game feels like Oregon should be up by 8 points.

It's not an excuse. It's an obvious observation!

so you would send Uconn to Portland and Oregon to AlbanY? A difference in many thousands of dollars. These teams have played in hostile arenas all year. You have to win on the road to win it all. Just a fact of life and basketball.

Like game 1, this game is such high quality. I feel like we haven’t seen this much in Elite 8 games in previous years.
