UPSET = Any lower seed winning
BIG UPSET = Upset in which the teams are more than four seeds apart
CLOSE GAME = Any game decided by single digits or in OT
BLOWOUT = Any game decided by 20+ points

Note that this does not include the men's play-in games. This is Round of 64 vs Round of 64.

It would appear from the eye test and that chart that the men's side is much deeper, so the first round (with 64 teams) is more competitive for the men.

But once the bottom-feeders are eliminated, the 32-team brackets are about the same.

I doubt anyone will be doing the seed totals thing this year. Laughing

The close game count is worth watching. The women's tournament has never matched the men's in number of close games and it's rarely been close. Last year it was 31-13.

men don't automatically get two home court games....women do....the home court advantage is monstrous for the women..

The men are setting a high bar with these first S16 games.

The pace of those late games was stultifying.

You must have watched TTech and Michigan Smile I was thinking more in terms of Tenn/Purdue, which was more electrifying. Also thought Oregon v. Virginia was a great game even as a defensive struggle. Great defensive play by both teams in the second half.

Virginia - Oregon wasn't bad, but it was slow. They barely got up 100 shots. Even the slow games in the women's tournament are around 120. BYU - Stanford, not exactly a track meet, reached 128.

Tennessee - Purdue was a huge outlier in the men's tournament. It was the highest scoring game in the tournament by nearly 30 points, and the first in which the losing team reached 80+.
