Looking forward to this game. Hope it's a good one.

Reyna Frost has 21 points so far in the first half for CMU, but State still ahead by 4.

CMU never has cared much about playing defense. Apparently neither does Michigan State. 43-40 Spartans at the half. Frost with 25.

75-74 CMU with about 5 minutes to go in the game. State has slowed Frost down, but others have picked up the scoring for CMU.

I'd foul them.
CMU foul MSU.
Force the throw in to the back court and foul them when the make a move to the basket. Twice.

Good D by Spartans forces a forced shot which clanks off the iron.

Really poor execution on that last play. CMU probably should have inbounded to Kelly, just to throw the defense off, then let Kelly get it to Frost. Easier said than done of course.

Now that was a game. MSU anticipated Hudson would have the ball on the last shot attempt, and doubled her to make her pass to a teammate for a forced shot that was nowhere close. Defense finally triumphed in a game of offense.

Central Michigan couldn't get off a jump shot in the last 7.6 seconds. Those extra fouls forcing MSU to take it out twice ended up hurting them as they couldn't get an open shot in 7 seconds. Getting it in easily by the passer turned out to be a minus as the player turned and dribbled into a double-team and wasn't tall enough to hit the open player or quick enough to dribble out.
MSU was smart to isolate Colley on the right so she could drive for a layup around a slower player.

Kept wondering whether both teams had good offenses or poor defenses -- so much scoring. I decided it was mostly individual players making very good basketball plays, time after time. |
