mine:
1. Louisville
2. Baylor (in my heart of hearts I don't think they're a #1 because I think beating UConn was an anomaly and the B12 is a walk in the park this year)
3. UConn
4. Oregon
5. Miss. St (they'll be a #1 if they run the SEC and if Oregon falters)
6. Notre Dame
7. OrSU (if they beat Stanford Twisted Evil )
8. Coinflips

Another Thursday. More upheaval. ND gets upset by Miami and NC St goes down. Here is the update at the top. #1’s Baylor, Louisville, Oregon, UConn. #2’s ND, Miss St, Stanford, Marquette. Just like that UConn is back on the 1-line thanks to Miami. More to come...

Still can't believe I'm seeing Marquette mentioned where they are. They better keep winning after all this Smile.

Need to remember that Uconn rating was elevated by their win over ND. Now that ND has lost multiple times including to Miami that win no longer looks that good. They have also had close games against less than stellar teams. ND was their big win this season and every time ND loses that value of that win declines. They beat them when they were #1 and unbeaten which is not the case now. If they lose or do not have an impressive win against SC what other top team victories do they have to show except ND?

I am not saying they are not a top team, but that impression is not reflected by wins but more by reputation. except the SC game they really have no games left to validate that perspective.

The reason I even bring this up is the talk that because ND lost that should automatically imply that Uconn should take their spot as a number one seed.

Congrats to Miami. The played very tough defense and out-rebounded ND. It was a hard fought game and Miami came out on top.

However that doesn't say much for Oregon does it. Miss St are playing no-one and Oregon has the bay schools only one just like last year Wink

The only teams they've lost to are above them as #1 seeds.

People seem to want it both ways as here we have a lot of teams being beat by nonranked or low ranked in and out of rankings teams and trying to equate that which is bogus. Stanford always goes out and tries to play some tough on the road games, I can't say that about a lot of the PAC teams.

I watched the second half.

Like Myrtle, I thought missed free throws would jump up and bite them. I kept track for a while and in one stretch they missed four of six. Just when I thought Miami had a chance, Ogunbowale hit that three and I thought that might be the spark that ignited Notre Dame.

Miami didn't play particularly well, but looking at the box score I see they outrebounded the Irish by nine, so the extra possessions leading to five extra shots may have been the difference. unlike the previous loss, which could have been explained by the absence of Jackie Young, virtually everyone was there so I don't feel I have a good simple explanation for the win.

I don't understand UConn going ahead of Miss St

who have they beaten that is better than who UConn has beaten? And MissSt's loss is theoretically not as good as the teams UConn lost to... How would they do head to head? Hard to tell.

UConn has one win that's any good. Miss St has beaten more currently ranked teams than UConn has even played.

I was thinking the same lol UCONN has only beaten 1 team . Plays in a worse conference and lost the last head to head matchup vs MSU . Not sure why they are being slated ahead of MSU either. This years UCONN Team would not go undefeated in the SEC this year thats for sure. MSU would go undefeated in the AAC along with probably 3 other SEC teams .

I should know better than to 'argue' with Pilight! But... IMO The top six teams are quite a large step ahead of the next six, who are quite a large step ahead of the next 12 or so. So Miss St lost to one team in the top tier. UConn lost to two teams in the top tier, but both of them are ranked higher than the one Miss St lost to. UConn also pounded Notre Dame who is still top tier, and beat Cal and DePaul who at the time were in the third tier but have since dropped down at least another level. Miss St has beaten four teams in the third tier. Marquette has edged itself up into the second tier...and came close to beating them on their home floor, even though they don't have any height to counter the big girl. The other three teams are pretty much only there because of weak competition in B12 and SEC this year.

Bottom line, I repeat, is that UConn beat one much better team than Miss. State and lost to two teams considered to be #1 & #2 in the country. Miss St's best win is Marquette, and lost to the only top tier team they played. To me, it's not even close. But here's Charlie's rationale, which he makes it to be much closer, http://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/25949122/notre-dame-loss-returns-uconn-no-1-seed-bracketology Anyway after they stomp on So Caro coming up, it will be clearer. [and where is that poster who thinks I hate UConn anyway?]

since we kinda hijacked this thread, I'm moving it over to the AP Poll thread in the regular non-game day forum...

Mississippi St vs Connecticut

MSU has one loss to a top 5 team, UConn 2 all games on the road.

Top 5 wins
MSU: Marquette (RPI 8), South Carolina (16), Kentucky (26), @Texas (32), @LSU (52)

UConn: @Notre Dame (1), UCF (14), @California (29), DePaul (40), (N)Purdue (45)

I would give a small nod to UConn.

Yeah, if you believe UCF is a top 20 team then UConn has an edge

Oh, you big ol' Big 12 hater!! Evil or Very Mad Razz

As I've stated earlier, I actually agree, but....Baylor probably has the best chance, out of those named above, of finishing their season with no losses. Doesn't that keep them ahead of L'ville, all other things considered?

Given the topsy-turvy season, and how rankings don't mean as much now as they have in more typical seasons, I won't be surprised by Crème (or Myrtle!) being way off.

Well, Oregon State got trounced, so that throws a wrench in things.

1. Louisville
2. Baylor
3. Oregon
4. UConn
5. Miss St. (I'd have them #1 over UConn if they win out, but I suspect Oregon will stumble in the Pac 12 putting both here.)
6. Notre Dame
7. Stanford
8. Marquette (?)

I'd have a question mark by Marquette too - they haven't looked too good the last two games. I'm ok if they drop a bit - just want them to be able to host first and second round games so a 4 seed instead of a 2 seed is ok with me Smile.

I missed a large part of the first half, and pretty quickly lost interest in what I was seeing.

I didn't see any passion from ND. I didn't see any urgency from ND later in the game. They just looked like they were robots going through the motions.

I sure wish I knew why.

Are they so used to winning that they think they don't have to make an effort? Is no one willing to step up, be a leader and tell the rest of the team to pull their heads out of her asses? Was the scout the problem?

They have about a month to figure it out or they are in deep shit if they want to repeat as national champs and not go down as a team that fell far short of reasonable expectations.

I think I heard a Muffet interview where she said exactly this. No leadership. Though frankly I've always had a bit of a problem with that word. There are a lot of ways to lead and not all are verbal. When someone is yelling at their teammates and the announcers call that 'leadership' it makes me cringe. I'm more like everyone should know their role and do it and encourage each other and be good teammates. But also last night ND's body language as a whole wasn't very good.

I just got around to watching this game. I didn't think Notre Dame was necessarily lacking in energy or effort -- at least not initially. In fact, running down loose balls and getting extra rebounds was what kept them in the game early. But then in the middle of the game, Mompremier and Hof totally outplayed Shepard and Turner. Shepard did assert herself late in the second half, but overall as a tandem, the Miami posts outplayed the ND posts. That's huge because ND relies heavily on having that advantage in the middle. Add to that, the ND perimeter players simply had a bad shooting day. Mabrey started hot in the 1st Qtr, then didn't do much afterward. Ogunbowale had a brief stretch in the second half where it looked like she was heating up, but if didn't carry through. She ended up 4-15. So to me, it was a combination of Miami matching up well with ND in the paint, and then ND having a bad shooting night. Muffett needs to figure out some things with how she uses her post players. Otherwise, I wouldn't panic if I'm an ND fan.

Oh, I'm not saying that a leader has to yell at the team (unless that is what works for the leader and the team responds to it) when telling them to pull their heads out of their assess. But I'm not above a few choice words. Maybe an "I'm not planning on losing this fucking game, now are you with me or not?" Or "God damn it, we have got to start playing like we want it."

It's just knowing what works for both. It might just be a simple "I know that we can do this, now let's get it done!"
