If Dietrick was 'a big part of our success last season', she must be one hell of a practice player. Or, like, a great masseuse or something.

Well, she went to Princeton - maybe she does stuff like analytics and advanced stats, or if she is really smart, maybe she hacks into other teams computers and finds their game plans.

I didn't cringe when Dietrick came in, unlike Maggie Lucas or Matee Ajavon. That's all you can ask for in an 11th player.

I admit, I did cringe less as the season went on. Wonder what is going on with Dantas - she is an RFA. I'm kind of indifferent - she may not show up next year due to the Olympics (assiming Brazil qualifies.) Lot of posts in this draft and Billings may already be better.

Why are we expecting an 11th player in the rotation to be a major contributor? At that point in the rotation, other attributes like being a positive teammate and actually accepting her role in the rotation can be just as important. Considering her lack of real experience in the WNBA, I thought she did just fine for the Dream last season.

I'm just having a hard time getting as excited about the Dream resigning the 11th player as the coach.

Collen by her nature is very upbeat. Would you expect her to say, "we re-signed her because she is an adequate end-of-the-bench player."

She certainly did better for the Lynx than the Dream. I wonder if Dream match.

Of course, no details like the previous offer sheets. Is it max? Is it multi year?

Now if Reeve offers Zahui, my confidence will be somewhat renewed.

Wonder of we'll hear anything today? New York and Connecticut haven't announced anything.

Mystics re signed Sanders and signed Kim Mestdagh for training camp. A belgian buddie for Emma. I really like that signing. She can spread the floor for them and can light teams up when she gets going. Top 5 player of the past Worlds

Mestdagh's a nice flier on someone who can play on the wing and potentially actually shoot. Too many complementary players in Washington last year that defenses could essentially ignore. And nice to get Sanders done considering they didn't bother to core her.

I remember a discussion on this board that January might retire. Which of course doesn't mean anything and I realize something else said PX was re-signing January recently so who knows?

Either way it is a good move for PX IMO reuniting Sims and Griner, and adding a player who is a good defender, can play both guard spots, seems to be improving and peaking and fits very much with the win now time frame of the DT/Griner lead Mercury. If everyone stays healthy and DT stays through the 2020 Olympics a Griner, DT, Bonner, Sims core should be in the mix the next few years. Now they just need to get a little stronger at PF maybe with the draft.

Now does LA match?
You are equating quickness and speed with being a good defender. That is the hype that followed her out of college. Her speed gets her steals in the open floor, but while she is not a horrible defender she certainly is not a very good one in the half court. She has a defensive weakness that can be exploited. She often loses her assignment off switches or picks. i suspect it's her peripheral vision. Unless a player is in front of her, they can lose her easily especially on inbounds scrambles. Most of her fouls come running into shooters while recovering from picking them up too late.

Great pick up for the Fever. Maybe she will finally average 3 points a game this season ...

She'd be so much more useful if she could just get that 3 point shot working. There were glimpses of it down here this season, but ultimately she finished with a 28% clip, which is just not good enough for someone who shoots selectively.

Post this here in case people aren't in the Lynx thread:

Maya signed her core designation from Minnesota. So while she won't play this year, and the Lynx will suspend that signed contract, that keeps her rights with the Lynx when she does return. If she wanted out, she would have not signed the offer.

Kent Youngblood reported today that the contract that Maya signed was not the core designation one, but actually a multi-year contract.

So if and when Maya returns, it will not be as a free agent in any form, no matter the state of the CBA.

I think that officially puts all rumors of unhappiness and desire for a trade to bed.
