At the half, Duke leads 26-21
Cuse scored FOUR points in the second quarter.
12-1 run by Duke.
Is Syracuse trying to pull a Tennessee? This would be three straight losses in eight days if they lose this.

Nah, Duke had to re-start their losing streak after a fluke win.

LOL. She's a senior and I haven't heard she's graduating. Playing for Geno she might actually have a basketball career beyond college. Not sure he'd be able to reverse JPM's (lack of) coaching in just one season. |
Geno sure wasn't able to accomplish much with Stevens in the two years he had her, in respect to developing her post game. That was his intent. Rather than elevating her level of play, it, in fact, discouraged him him to the point where he might quit earlier than he wanted too.
Most players today come to college with most of their individual skills honed. They spend much more time working with personal trainers than they used to do. Unless you are referring to an under the radar player, players come to college with most of their skills already developed. Stevens was an under the radar player, her outside game was already developed and intact when she transferred to UConn. Geno's took her in to fill a vacancy he had at the post position. The plan was to develop her as a post player during her sit out year and that she would play the remaining two years as a post.
Through his comments during her first year on the court , Geno expressed his frustration with her progress. it showed in the limited number of minutes she received considering she was his only post player. He was really surprised when she opted to declare for the draft, leaving him with a void at the post position which he has yet to fill.
What is my point? it is that the type of players coming out of high school has changed. They have already spent more time working on their skills before they even get to college than previous players did their entire careers. They, like Stevens, do not feel they need to subject them selves to a challenging developmental college program to have a Pro Career. Stevens, Diamond and others can have careers with out the development they used ot have to acquire in college.
Not saying this applies to every player, but the top recruits have spent most of their free time playing AAU and working with trainers starting before they even get to high school, so they do not want to spend the effort that used to be necessary in the past during college. There is much less development taking place in college than there used to be. All you have to do is look at the level of players that are rated over 96 today. That used to be the top score not less than 10 years ago. Dukes point guard before Chelsea was in ESPN's top ten with a grade of 92, which would put her in the 150 range today. You have to be at least 94 to even appear in the top 100. The ratings are done using a development scale based on composites of their individual level of various individual skill. Ball handling, parameter shooting, finishing, BBIQ etc. It is a standard scale that is used.
Some development does happen especially with under the radar post players, such as Gulish from Oregon St, but in general less happens than in the past. Many players would turn pro early if the could. College is not as important as it once was. That jump to the pro's will still impact their first year no matter when they transition. Players like Sabrina I would be ready to go in their third year. Players in the NBA sometimes only spend one year in college. The face of WCBB is in a major transition right now.
So you can stop with this Geno developing Odom for the pro's and the implication that McC does not develop her players. How they do in the pro's does not really reflect that much on their college experience to the degree that is being projected by people that have agenda's that gain by it's promotion. This is one reason that the level of top recruits has gone down in respect to UConn. They know they can go to less demanding programs and still do well at the next level.
