I agree that the Big 10 may not even get a 2 seed because there isn't a superior team. Only Michigan St has a major non-conference win (over Oregon). But based on what has happened so far I could see as many as 7 teams making the tournament. Right now the 4 "M's" plus Iowa, Indiana and Rutgers would all make it in.

Agree with this, though would imagine 6 max will get in. While there may not be a dominant national contender type team, overall the league has improved. Will be fun to see these battles play out

Gophers win over Quse was a solid non-conference win.

The word choices here are apt. It is a win I would call "solid" but I wouldn't go as far as calling it a "major" win the likes of MSU over Oregon.

If the Big Ten shouldn’t get a 2 seed what’s the argument for the Pac getting a 2 seed?

Oregon lost to a Big Ten team
Stanford lost to a mid-major
California lost to a mid-major and nearly lost to another one
I’d have to look up Oregon St, but I’m sure they stumbled too. Oh yeah, TAMU.

Oregon has wins over Syracuse & Miss St and a high RPI/NC SOS
Stanford has wins over Baylor & Tennessee and a high RPI/NC SOS

IMO, Oregon & Stanford are in good shape for a top 2 seed if they dominate PAC-12 play.

Oregon St has a weak RPI/NC SOS and no big wins (Duke & South Carolina haven't shown to be that great this year)

Cal has a decent RPI/NC SOS but that's due to scheduling almost all WNIT-caliber teams except UConn, so no big wins either

Those teams aren't in good shape to get a Top 2 seed, even if they somehow completely dominate PAC-12 play.

Maryland's top non-conference opponent was South Carolina, otherwise their non-conference SOS was very weak too, so they couldn't afford losing at home to anybody, especially teams like Rutgers if they wanted a top 2 seed (they could end up with a 3 seed, like a couple years ago when the Big Ten was very weak, and their claim for being considered elite was basically "We lost to UConn!")

Not a good day for the undefeated.

I’m not sure why you’d think it wasn’t an upset. Michigan hasn’t been ranked, and Minnesota was #12.

Because Michigan was 1.5 point favorites going into the game....

Thanks, I didn’t realize.

Only four would surprise me.

Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa and Minnesota are pretty much locks but if those are your four, then are you saying that 13 – 1 Indiana is going to stumble badly? Or that Iowa isn't all that?

Rutgers always manages to surprise but a team that can be Maryland is unlikely to miss the tournament.

Michigan might struggle but I'm expecting them in.

Nebraska Purdue and Northwestern are outside looking in but one of them might make it.

Only 6 teams left with the loss by Virginia Tech, and 3 more teams (Connecticut, Louisville, South Alabama) have to play tonight.

South Alabama becomes the second unbeaten to fall today, losing 71-63 to Appalachian State. That leaves just 5.

So that leaves Louisville and NC State. Who's going down next?

Just goes to show that it's a lot easier to remain undefeated if you don't schedule any top 15 teams.

I have to believe it is Louisville tonight. But wouldn't it be great if both stayed unbeaten until they meet on February 28

And then there was 1. North Carolina St is the last unbeaten team after Notre Dame beat Louisville 82-68.

NCSt plays a surprising VaTech team (in Raleigh) on Jan 20. If they get past that they might well still be undefeated until the 2nd week in Feb when they face FSU, Syr and ND in a row.

Raise your hand if you picked NC State as the last undefeated team in the country?

NC St stayed unbeaten today, but it took overtime at home to subdue Virginia Tech, 70-61. Taylor Emery of Va Tech missed the second of two free throws with 6 seconds to go which might have secured the win for the Hokies. Virginia Tech is now 0-5 in the ACC after going unbeaten in non conference play, including a win over Rutgers.

The final undefeated team goes down as UNC defeats NC State 64-51.
