I have a feeling this one might be ugly but would love to be wrong Smile. I think Miss State is going to go to town on the inside against Marquette. Marquette doesn't have much height and doesn't have much post depth either.

I think it's going to be on ESPN3

Shocked McCowan has a 6" advantage over her 'defender'. How is it that Miss St doesn't just throw a lob every time down?

Shocked Never thought Howard could shoot and here she is 2-2 from three. Without her, the dawgs would be in deep do-do.

And just like that they give up a 12-0 run and are down by 4 at the half Sad.

I'm afraid to say that MU came out on FIRE and jumped to a 62-55 lead.

That lead is long gone Sad. Maybe it's better I can't watch the game (don't get it with Sling TV). Just following the stats.

well the defense against MsSt is obviously to sink into the paint and dare 'em to shoot from outside. The 'weave' isn't very effective against this defense. I'm also thinking that whenever McCowan hedges on the screens you should go right at her and draw some fouls.

Maybe they're figuring out that McCowan is at least 6" taller than her defender.

Miss State wins 85-82 Sad. Now Marquette needs to go and take care of business and win at Northwestern on Sunday.

Or maybe not - ESPN lied to me and told me the final was 85-82 - apparently it was really 87-82.

sorry Fan. Your team just needs someone with some size who can play.

Yep - that's why Tori McCoy not being able to play has been such a big impact. Of course there are more important concerns for her right now than basketball. And one player alone wouldn't solve everything. Erika Davenport's stat line doesn't look great tonight but I'm guessing that can be somewhat attributed to Miss State's defense (I wasn't able to watch the game). I understand Davenport had two fouls early and they just don't have anyone who can come off the bench to replace her either. I can't recall a game where she had zero shot attempts.

She worked a bit as a decoy pulling McC out of the paint to give King and others space, but it was just as well she didn't try to put up shots one on one under the basket.

That was a great game- sorry MU fan. I'll take credit for it, as noted in the Top 25 pick em thread. It was my taking MS ST that made it close. Smile

Very impressed w/ MU.

You're right myrtle- when MS ST does the weave, just stay in the paint and watch. They can't do much beyond 15'. (except Anriel of course) Laughing

Yeah Davenport is undersized to begin with and was at a major height disadvantage tonight Smile.

I'm used to these close games - MU just can't seem to get over the hump and win games like this one. Now my big fear is they come out awful Sunday and lose at Northwestern. They really need to win the rest of their non-conference games except for Notre Dame - I don't think that's going to happen.

I'm hoping they can win easily Sunday and Blockton can score 14 or less in that game Smile. She's 15 points away from tying the all-time scoring record at MU and it would be cool to see break the record in person when they come back home. But chances are she might break the record on the road Sunday and that's ok.
